Trump Vaccine Adviser Warns That Scrutiny Of Him Will Delay Arrival Of Coronavirus Vaccine
HHS assistant secretary Michael Caputo went even further, arguing the media doesn't want a vaccine to succeed before the election. I believe that all the way in my aorta.

The chief adviser to Operation Warp Speed, the Trump administrations program investing billions of dollars into discovering a coronavirus vaccine, says media scrutiny of his stock ownership may delay a vaccine or make its discovery less likely because it is distracting him from his work
Moncef Slaoui made the remarks on the official Health and Human Services podcast, released Friday, while being interviewed by HHS assistant secretary of public affairs Michael Caputo. The interview quickly descended into a lengthy rant about the media.
The American people need to understand that the media often times are lying to them because they dont want a vaccine, in order to defeat Donald Trump, Caputo said at one point....
Dr. Slaoui doesnt seem to understand that what he perceives as attacks arent personal and they arent fake news, said Zupnick. They are about making sure that the public can trust that Operation Warp Speed is operating in the best interests of patients and public health and not engaging in the cronyism and corruption that is so pervasive through the Trump Administration.

(6,819 posts)"because it is distracting him from his work"? Oh, please. The entire administration has been distracted from its work (unless it involves roll-backs, defunding, and blatant lying) for 3-1/2 years.

(25,251 posts)when a vaccine is not available before the election.
We all know that there was no way that the vaccine would be available quickly. There is a process that it has to go through and you really can't cut corners when you're dealing with something that has to be evaluated from both a safety and efficacy standpoint.
Operation Warp Speed was just a gimmick for Trump to use - kind of a 'hail mary' pass for his re-election. He uses it to create a illusion in the minds of people that he "care's" and he's hoping that people will buy into that and prehaps vote for him.
I believe he knows that it won't be a quick turn around - but it sure sounds good - don't it? It's just another one of Trump's - 'cons'.
So now as we're closing in on the November election - the back peddling and blame game has to be started. Hence - you get Trump's so-called vaccine adviser saying that any scrutiny of him will delay the arrival of any vaccine. Let's blame the media. Say that they don't want a vaccine to succeed before the election because they want Trump to lose.
That's what is going on here. They need an excuse and someone to blame.

Im a federal employee, and I am prohibited by law from owning ANY stock remotely related to anything in the industries my agency regulates.
And Im just a low-level guy, not a decision maker by any means. ANYONE in my agency is required, by law, to divests in anything remotely related to our industry.
You mean to tell me that the guy in charge of vaccines HOLDS STOCk SHARES in a vaccine maker? Seriously???
Throw them ALL out. Immediately. Put them in jail. I cant believe that crap.
There ought to be front page headlines tomorrow announcing who it is, and how much stock he holds in what entities, and he needs to be fired immediately.

While working for the Pharma giant, Slaoui helped misrepresent scientific research on a drug that had harmed tens of thousands of Americans. Since the Trump administration has shifted its COVID-19 strategy to favor vaccine development, this means Americas hopes for addressing the pandemic rests with someone who was at the epicenter of one of the more controversial episodes in recent drug development.
Back in 2007, Avandia was GSKs $3 billion-per-year blockbuster diabetes drug, when Dr. Steve Nissen of the Cleveland Clinic published a study in the New England Journal of Medicine that found that it increased the risk of heart attacks and deaths in patients. With the future of Avandia in doubt, the companys share price fell 7 percent, wiping out billions of dollars of value. GSK was in a serious bind. But instead of opening its books, it responded by misleading the public, federal agencies, and Congress about the drugs dangers. Slaoui helped the company in this deception. At the time, he was GSKs chairman of research and development, and when he was hauled before Congress to testify to Avandias safety, he offered a rosy assessment that downplayed the drugs risks.
I know this, because I was the U.S. Senate Finance Committees lead investigator on the bipartisan investigation of GSK and Avandia, and our reports found that GSK had bullied critics of the drug, hid data, and misled the public. By testifying before Congress and the American public that the drug was fine and by working with his colleagues to undermine a study that found it was dangerous, Slaoui assisted GSKs strategy to deny the drugs dangers, which ultimately led to a $3 billion federal fine to settle criminal and civil liability related to several of the companys drugs, including Avandia. The month after Slaoui testified, FDA scientists presented an analysis estimating that Avandia had caused approximately 83,000 excess heart attacks in America since coming on the market.

(2,845 posts)Is the fact that someone that loses their job, misses a couple of child support payments or gets caught with a small bag of weed (depending on which state you live in) can be sentenced to spend time in prison. People like Moncef Slaoui (of which there are plenty, including Trump) get to be responsible for serious trauma, if not the outright death, of tens of thousands of unsuspecting people and they always seem to be able to just walk away. Why do we allow this? These are the type of people that belong in prison for an extended length of time. If intentionally falsifying data to manipulate a stock price at the expense of humanity is acceptable then it doesn't really say much for us as a society. We don't demand it or hold anyone accountable so why do we seemed shocked at this kind of behavior? This happens every day and the money always wins.
We need a complete overhaul of our society. We're killing ourselves slowly because we aren't adapting fast enough to counter the effects of climate change. Why? Gotta protect the money! Drunken rich kid kills several people driving while drunk. He goes home safe and sound. Why? Mommy and Daddy spread the money. The Supreme Court says that money is speech. So, if you want your candidate to win just speak louder anonymously with millions of dollars to a PAC. Get what you want, all others and society be damned. It's downright sickening. There are instances of this happening every day in this country and until the depraved people responsible for these acts are held accountable and imprisoned it will continue and get worse. Gotta protect that money!

(7,432 posts)If you get so distracted from any possible crimes or ethical violations that you prefer to commit, just pass off the vaccine job to another dolt who can do just as good a job at fucking everything up as you can. Oh. How about just letting Jared handle it. He's handled everything he's been given with the aplomb of a hockey player stickhandling in a swimming pool. Surely Jared can figure everything out before brunch. We're not worried one bit, Michael. Just take your time with all of your ethical problems and let a real pro fill in for you.
