Gun sales spike among African-Americans: 'Our ancestors died for us to vote

they also died for us to be able to carry guns'

When Americans panic, they buy guns — lots of them. During the first six months of 2020, amid a global coronavirus pandemic, gun retailers have reported a record 10.3 million firearm transactions, according to a new survey by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Overall, gun sales in the U.S. have increased by 95 percent while ammunition sales have increased 139 percent compared to the same period last year.

And while various demographic groups are buying guns in 2020, African-Americans account for the highest increase in gun purchases of any group.

“The highest overall firearm sales increase comes from Black men and women, who show a 58.2% increase in purchases during the first six months of 2020 versus the same period last year,” Jim Curcuruto, NSSF director of research and market development, wrote in his report. “Bottom line is that there has never been a sustained surge in firearm sales quite like what we are in the midst of.”

In many states, estimated gun sales doubled in March compared with February. In Utah, they nearly tripled. And in Michigan, a coronavirus hot spot, sales more than tripled.

Ronald Reagan supported the repeal of open carry after the Black Panthers took their guns to the State Capital in Sacramento.

I wonder how many conservatives will come out in favor of gun control all of a sudden?

planning a big rally and a heavily armed, organized group of African Americans starting organizing a counter march. Long story short, the vast majority of 3 Percenters discovered that their lawns needed mowing that day. Unfortunately one of the guys among the armed African Americans got careless with his gun and wounded three people.

So yeah, maybe Black people buying up guns will lead to broad gun control. The interesting thing is if people are buying, they have to pass background checks in most cases, so it is not people with criminal records doing the buying.

I would have an arsenal of legal weapons in my house and a concealed carry permit for the weapon in my car.

It is just dangerous to be Black in this country. And that is a big-time shame for this country.

If I decide to own a gun (unlikely) the last thing that I would do is concealed carry in my vehicle. That is a recipe for some police officers to commit murder and get away with it.

Plenty seem to have AWs. It seems it really could be a life or death decision.

Once they have em, doubt they will want to give them up easily.

He is a travel writer so
He was studying Southern culture and etc

He went to gun shows for an example and wrote about them

Then while hanging out with a black guy he asked
‘why dont you see black folks at gun shows?’

The guy quickly laughed; ‘black folks dont sell their guns’

should arm themselves. The police and military have made it clear they back Trump. Right wingers, who we already know are heavily armed, are more and more erratic and dangerous.

The last thing we need is to be the only unarmed political group in our country if things continue to go badly.

The difference between Repuke and Dem firearm owners is that the Dems don't advertise or brag about what they own.

There are literally millions of Dems, of which I am one, that are combat veterans and know our way around firearms and aren't afraid of using them to defend ourselves or our families.

The vast majority of these RWNJ have never served a day in the military or seen actual combat, except maybe the video games they play thinking that it's actual combat, and they will piss and shit their pants and run and hide at the first shot fired at them.

I swore I would never carry a firearm again after my discharge from the USMC, but I've reversed my stance because of these RWNJ and now I carry my 1911 in my truck with me just in case.

But we’ve let firearm ownership become a wedge issue and Republicans dominate ownership.

16% of Democrats personally own a firearm - 28% live in a firearm owning household.
32% of Independents personally own a firearm - 44% live in a firearm owning household.
45% of Republicans personally own a firearm - 61% live in a firearm owning household.

Given that police and militias are very publicly throwing support behind Trump and extremism we cannot allow them to continue to make firearm ownership a wedge issue.

Arm yourselves folks. Buy a handgun and a rifle and take safety classes. Become proficient. Be prepared and hope you never have to use those skills.

A bit of advice: It makes a lot more sense to only buy a couple quality guns and a boatload of ammo for regular practice, than buy an arsenal of shiny toys that sit in a gun safe 99% of the year.

When Trump was elected, my POC wife said to me "thank God I married a white man."

Later that week I decided to renew my handgun permit.

I’m curious if a surge of diverse new gun owners will have gun control proponents rethink their efforts to restrict the right to keep and bear arms.

a sporting goods stores. There have been long lines at the gun counters. The majority of the buyers have been POC or other non-white/males.

It is also true, including today, that gun control proponents have had no problem with embracing racism if it leads toward their goals. They will stand beside and support Republicans, telling people it is "worth it".
