(297,305 posts)chain.. Thank Goodness! We all went through the Preps 'cause we just didn't know. Whew!
I hope you & yours are doing well as can be in this heartbreaking time.
Oh, I got to vote for Kai Kahele in person on Thursday.. quite by chance bc I had accidently tossed my Envelope that I got with my Mail in Ballot. So I went about trying to get another ballot.
Turns out we have a Kauai Voters Service Center & you can Vote in Person. The keeper of the Direct Voting Drop Box takes your Temperature & then directs you to Conference Room B. It was almost like private voting. Just one machine, Paper Ballot.. & room enough for 3 or 4 Voters.
After anyone votes the Poll Workers clap and Cheer with Hooyays! Like a Party! When they clapped for me I Clapped, too, and said "Thank you all for being here!"

(34,136 posts)One camera set up and any or all networks can access and cover as needed. The networks could just assign some interns to monitor the White House Follies and alert the higher ups when something interesting happens. Or - radical thought - there could be more than one - one to watch, others to check the truthfulness of what is said. That's probably need a half dozen or more interns!
I would LOVE to have Dolt45 come out for a WH Briefing and all there is in the room is one camera and his swarm of toadies.

(81,314 posts)What constantly irks me is what now shapes up as complete baloney and journalistic malpractice - STILL reacting and responding to trump with what always looks like wide-eyed naivety. Like - well, maybe he's telling the truth today.
FUCK THAT! Do we not have an almost-four-year-long and VERY well-documented track record of CONSTANT lies and bullshit and distractions and grievance whining and more lies and more distortions and more bullshit? This guy DOES NOT tell the truth, HAS NOT told the truth, WILL NOT tell the truth, and CANNOT tell the truth. NOT EVER!
And we can go back even farther than just this four-year timeframe. THROUGHOUT his life in the public eye, he has lied, misled, bullshitted, tap-danced, distracted, distorted, slung a lotta hash, and blamed everything/everybody/anything/anybody else outside of his own little self.
Everyone in the media seems to forget this. Everyone in the media seems to want to start with a daily reset - where everything is covered and judged from a zero-base, disregarding everything we know and see and have observed FOR YEARS with this bastard.
And I just wish they'd stop!
Everything about him, everything he says, everything he does, MUST BE viewed in the context of his long-established track record as a certified liar and cheat. And it should be covered that way.
He has LONG AGO squandered ANY benefit of the doubt that seems to wash over him every day. He NO LONGER deserves such treatment.
Everything about him should be covered through the lens, and on the premise, of TOTAL doubt. In context with his long-established and EXTREMELY well-documented track-record as a liar and a cheat. NOTHING with him should be taken at face value.
Maybe it's some over-arching attempt to try to remain objective. But by now, the only objective attitude or interpretation we have, the only one that's relative and operative, is to fully understand and accept that he is a liar and a cheat, and EVERYTHING from him and about him should be treated, and covered, from that fundamental. From that baseline. From now on.

(25,981 posts)It drives me nuts too. Why pretend trump is anything other than the lying scum he has repeatedly shown he is?
Mr. Evil
(2,845 posts)I'm guessing they're still doing the same thing over and over in the hopes of finally receiving a different result. Well, we all know what that actually is. The definition of insanity. It's almost as if the news producers at every news organization is giddy with glee that President Nazivomit is going to be saying something so they can capture the clown show and reap the ratings. This is disgusting on so many levels anyone would have to hijack this thread and most others to list them all. And to actually show him reading aloud is quite possibly one of the most mentally painful experiences anyone watching has to endure.
Anyone involved with any presentation of this know-nothing doofus should always preface that event with a disclaimer that the viewing audience is about to hear lies, pettiness, unwarranted and unfounded insults, misinformation, blatant ignorance (regardless of the subject), bias, bigotry, racism, fearmongering, self-agrandizement, inhumanity and the blaming of anyone and/or anything other than himself for everything he and his administration is responsible for.
Just stop showing him altogether! He has nothing of substance to offer anyone or our society, nor will he ever do so. He is simply a fraud in every sense of the term. Everyone involved in TV news presentations should just forsake TV viewing diplomacy and call him what he is at every opportunity... A god damned fraud!

(7,263 posts)On Twitter, just click on the little 'house' icon in the ribbon below the body of the tweet and click on "Copy Link To Tweet".
Then simply paste that url link here on DU in the 'Message text' field in the 'Reply To' window.
Example: https:<edited>//twitter.com/donwinslow/status/1290027764167266305?s=20
Remove all characters from the '?' to the end (the ones in bold type in the above example). Or not...if you are not comfortable doing this step no worries it's cosmetic only, won't hurt anything.
That's it.

(52,253 posts)Responsible journalism doesn't pay attention to sources that repeatedly lie. Given he is president, pool reporters should always follow him, but not live. Anything he says should be confirmed first.
And coverage of bigotry should be handled very differently. Do *not* lead with the quote, no matter how outrageous. That gives way too much airtime to furthering his agenda. Lead with the fact that he said something bigoted. The story is the bigotry. The actual quote should be in paragraph three and the earliest.

All news from the White House should be displayed as text on the TV screen, no comment needed and absolutely no images of Trump.
So much more is happening politically in this country and is not being covered.

(13,571 posts)I had my beefs with him and his own representation of the media over the years. He was not faultless.
The first thing that should happen is for Congress to pass a resolution restoring the credentialing authority for reporters back to the Correpondents' Association where it was originally. Ceding that authority to the press office was a disastrous mistake. Reporters covering Congress have their access codified in the Senate Rules.
Reporters covering the WH have no such protection, despite their critical role in the peoples' right to question their president.

(28,264 posts)trump will shrivel up without regular, wide-spread media coverage. Walk away from him, MSM.
Mr. Ected
(9,670 posts)If you abandon the WH briefing room, it will be solely populated by the RW propaganda outlets, and that's playing directly into his hands. Better to leave some stalwart reporters there to even the playing field AND ask the difficult questions that he will sidestep. ALSO send reporters to doctors, governors, etc. We need to see both sides of the coin so the media can show the American people that Trump's side of the coin is written in Cyrillic.

(1,979 posts)Why do reporters think that they need to continue to give him an audience? Interview everyone around him who acts like they have some sense and stop giving an audience to insanity.
Not only is the continued coverage just enabling the bad behavior, it is helping to spread false information that is literally killing people. In addition - it also contributes to people's insatiable need for instant drama - and 45 well knows it. We MUST get back to some semblance of normal; we have become so used to this 24/7 craziness that it has almost become our normal. What happens when we get someone who is not going to feed the need for constant drama come January? It's time to get everyone, or as many as we can, to start to focus on a future that is hopeful, healthy, happy, productive. Where we are not pitied and can rebuild relationships that have been destroyed over a bully's need for power and dominance. Once President Biden announces his VP, our energy should shift to supporting this campaign 100%.
We need to start thinking about not only undoing the damage of 4 years of corruption, but looking at what we can do, as individuals, to help heal our battered and bruised nation. She has been in a four year abusive relationship, but she is going to get out of it and with the help of our love, America the Beautiful will proudly shine again.
