Almost HALF of Trump Fans Think Hydroxychloroquine is 'Cure' for Coronavirus. It is Not.

By Tommy Christopher

Nearly half of President Donald Trump’s supporters believe that the unproven — and potentially harmful — drug hydroxychloroquine is a “cure” for COVID-19, according to a new poll.

Support for Trump continues to have an outsize effect on attitudes involving the coronavirus. In a new Yahoo! News/YouGov survey, respondents were asked “Do you think the drug hydroxychloroquine is a cure for COVID-19?”

The vast majority — 83 percent — either correctly said it is not (52%) or said they didn’t know (31%), and only 17 percent mistakenly said it is a cure. The drug has not even been proven an effective treatment for the virus, and some studies have shown it to be potentially harmful. There is currently no cure for the coronavirus illness.

But among Trump supporters, a whopping 44 percent say Hydroxychloroquine is a cure for coronavirus, and less than a quarter of them correctly said that it is not.

we're dumbing the population down, too. Don't they, for the most part an aging population, really want an under educated, minimally paid non living wage employee giving them an enema to know the difference between a liter and a gallon?

None of this makes sense. He's going to drop out before Nov 3 due to his being cheated out the office and if he backs Romney as the last minute replacement, Moscow's Mitch will protect him as much as he can from the Senate. Some people are saying that. I'm not, I don't know.

I’d bet almost all are creationists who also think global climate change is a hoax.

but I’m unsure why if it’s so dangerous, is it being used as a treatment for malaria and lupus(?). From what I’ve seen, there are conflicting reports on whether it is effective for treating covid albeit with more evidence suggesting it is not effective. Discuss. . . .

But.

You know those ads for pharmaceuticals on TeeVee? The ones that talk about side-effects like liver failure, flaming diarrhea, and brain bleeding?

That's CHQ.

I have a friend with lupus, and she takes that crap. Would go off in a heartbeat. Every goddam side effect in the world.

Take a person who is ill with Covid... add CHQ... and you've got either 1) a sicker person, or 2) a dead person.

Don't take my word for it.

For me as a lupus patient the drug is a miracle drug. Its given me my life back. All meds can have adverse side effects. In the case of Hydroxycholoroquine a common one is that it can cause long QT syndrome-this is where the electrical pulses for your heartbeats are lengthened. This isn't a problem for most people talking the drug but if you have an underlying heart condition you can get serious arrhythmias.

Also, its relatively rare, but Hydroxychloroquine can cause a type of cardiomyopathy and/or kidney failure. A lot of these side effects of the drug are tied to taking high doses over a long period of time but because people are all different there may be some that are more susceptible than others. So since these side effects are possible I can see why doctors finally determined its not wise to keep giving the drug to people when its not doing anything beneficial vs the virus due to these potential risks . Especially when those people were already deathly ill.

As a lupus patient my dosage is lower than what was being given in the hospitals. Overall, the drug is well tolerated by people in my situation and people with lupus have been taking it safely for many decades. The benefits far outweigh any risks.
