Because of the stories that young people on social media messed with his Rally tickets/attendance expectations in Tulsa? I mean obviously (to me, anyway) he wants to take a swipe at a major way young people communicate cause for the most part they dont support him... but he got pretty well embarrassed and, whether you believe it actually was kids logging in and claiming his tickets with no intention of going... the narrative was he was made a fool of by a bunch of school kids... and we know how well he deals with that.

(4,522 posts)When his rally at an airport drew only a few dozen people. Got to blame someone! So lets ban an app that hundreds of thousands of NEW voters use just days before they can vote. More of that genius shining through!

What's funny is that he has no authority whatsoever to "ban" Tik Tok. His blustering about it is even more comical than the 2/3 empty venue he faced in Tulsa.
Trump the Clown hates being recognized as a clown.
Note: After Tulsa, I put Tik Tok on my phone and watched "For You" videos for a few days, spending about an hour each time on the app. Then, I deleted the app, because I have a longer attention span than that, and I'm not in the age group that the app targets. Some of the videos were very clever and well-produced, but the subject matter didn't hold my attention for long.

(22,166 posts)Under some weird perversion of applying his so called emergencies power act? I just don't get what authority he could cite, and I do know the one that for transit of goods and such, such as stopping strikes by railroad personnel etc. so that goods can continued to be shipped, national security issues, etc. but for Tik Tok?

(146,331 posts)The U.S. government has precious little control over it at all. Similarly, Apple and Google, who supply most apps used on cell phones, are also global enterprises. The First Amendment protects them from government censorship and prior restraint of publication. They would simply laugh at Trump's Executive Order "banning" Tik Tok.
Trump simply has no authority to do what he would like to do.

(22,166 posts)I was concerned that being a Chinese app, despite Tik Tok's claims to be independent of Chinese interference etc., that rump would put up some sort of fake 'national security' type of issue or other BS to justify actions he may take, if any on Tik Tok.
I would, IMHO, think if rump did anything on Tik Tok, that it would outrage an awful lot of people.
I agree w/ you in that attempts to 'ban' Tik Tok would be laughed at (1st Amendment issues, no authority under any sort of emergency powers act, etc.).
This administration is a joke, or more specifically, rump and what he thinks he can get away w/ vs. reality of the situation. It's certainly not a time to slack off and drift one's eyes away from rump and what he is doing at any given moment. I don't trust rump one bit.

(45,021 posts)Trump's threats and disparagement are enough... and if he actually tries some actual vindictive bullshit as he says he will do, Tok Tok's attorneys will ferociously defend their business.
And meanwhile, Tik Tok has received a massive awareness campaign... for free, thanks to Trump's loony ravings. It's win win win for Tok Tok.
