Actually, everything about Twitter is visually unappealing to me. It's just a terrible format. But I still indulge for various reasons.
But hey, if you like it, I'm not gonna knock you for it.

(2,244 posts)Maybe that's where our thinking diverges. Hashtags are simply road signs, directing people to the information or ideas or conversations they're looking for. Before hashtags on Twitter, there wasn't any easy way for users to find what they were looking for. If you look at the history according to wiki, they came about during events for which people were searching for timely information: the SoCal fires of 2007 and the Iran protests of 2009-2010.
I'm not trying to change your mind at all, just wanted to offer a small defense for the lowly hashtag.
