Over time, its become clear that COVID-19 attacks far more than just the lungs, and new research indicates that it can leave lasting heart damage, even in formerly healthy people who have recovered from the initial symptoms.
Two new studies, both from Germany, examined the effects of COVID-19 on the heart, with one focusing on recovered patients and the other on older victims of the virus.
The first study, published Monday in JAMA Cardiology, found that three-quarters of recovered COVID-19 patients were left with structural changes to their hearts, even two months later.
The researchers examined cardiac MRIs from 100 recovered COVID-19 patients between the ages of 45 to 53, and compared them to MRIs of similar people who did not contract the virus. Most of the COVID-19 patients had recovered at home, while 33 had to be hospitalized at some point in their illness.
Of the 100 COVID-19 patients, 78 had structural changes to their hearts. Within that group, 76 had a biomarker that is typically found in patients who had a heart attack, and 60 had heart inflammation, called myocarditis. The patients were all mostly healthy prior to their illness, the researchers said.

(23,218 posts)When the MSM says "recovered" they don't explain what "recovered" really means.
Many will "recover" but have such lung damage that they won't be able to walk a few steps without being out of breath and needing oxygen. Others will have kidney damage so bad, they'll need dialysis forever, whereas others may have other major organ damage or neurological issues for the rest of their lives. They're know of long-term cardiac issues for some time now.
Has anyone noticed that the MSM doesn't interview that many that have truly "recovered?"

Yet Republicans want all of us to serve Trump and their money-God, while sending the kids back to school for a new generation of money-serfs.

This is a prospective observational cohort study of 100 patients diagnosed with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 by reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction on swab test of the upper respiratory tract who fulfilled inclusion criteria for this CMR investigation. This study followed the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) reporting guideline (eFigure in the Supplement). Participants were identified from the University Hospital Frankfurt COVID-19 Registry, covering for the area of the State of Hesse, Germany, and were recruited between April and June 2020. Patients recently recovered from COVID-19 referred for a clinical CMR due to active cardiac symptoms were not included in this analysis. "...(more)

(14,134 posts)He recovered from COVID in April. Ankles swelled last week, went to Medcheck, they sent him immediately to ER. ER Doc set up the cardiologist appointment.
He's Type II Diabetic, so it is concerning.
Thanks for posting this!
Edit to add: almost forgot, and it's an important point - ER doc found enlargement of his heart!
