(65,227 posts)...beginning July 1, MLB has had 99 cases and one team had 14 in 3 days.
The Marlins f'd something up.
There are 30 teams. 8 have had zero cases. 21 teams have averaged around 4, and one team had 14?
Sounds like a few teams, one particularly, took this less seriously.

(31,261 posts)I believe that will put to rest that we are capable of having Sports at any level in this country. Germany has successfully restarted Sports, but we dont have the societal discipline that Germany has in dealing with this virus.

(31,261 posts)playing across the country, in some cases with people in the stands. By having the NFL fail fast, lives will likely be saved as the curtain is pulled open to expose what the NFL brass is trying to slip by - because then school and college sports will slam close, seasons will be cancelled and millions will avoid exposure. If the NFL gets an ambiguous result, lots of stuff will open up and seasons will start, I want clear, fast absolute failure by the NFL.

(38,958 posts)I disagree that the failure of professional sports to operate in a pandemic of this nature will translate into schools making the decisions to close. As you stated we as a country lack the discipline and I dont see the public making the leap in logic to get us to the point where schools close.

(31,261 posts)But now that the subject is on schools.
There seems to be a growing body of data that indicates that kids under 10 would be safe in school. But even if there is only a 0.05% chance that one in that age group would die from COVID19, what parents would want to be the parents of that 0.05%? I believe this is going to come down to parents, if they are ok with school opening risks and being parents of a dead child, schools will reopen. What I envision is a piecemeal approach around the country, in the absence of federal and in some cases state leadership. States like Massachusetts, which has excellent schools and strong healthcare infrastructure will be a place to watch in regards to what that state does with school openings. I expect disaster in my state of Florida, we have a Trump loving idiot as governor, he seems easily overwhelmed by lots of things, I dont envision him improving and getting the handling of schools right.

That's why all the drones have now is "it's all exaggerated". Because it went to zero in March!

(24,397 posts)As part of the agreement reached Friday between the NFL and the NFLPA, all 2020 preseason games have been canceled. Without any on-field work in the spring, the Eagles would have been expected to take the field for their first preseason game in Indianapolis in just 19 days. The regular-season opener remains scheduled for September 13 at the Washington Football Team. Friday's agreement allows for Training Camps to open across the league.

(3,282 posts)They had decided to cancel preseason games over a week ago, probably longer. Getting rid of preseason games, or reducing them, has been on the NFLPA agenda for a long time.
