The wealthy Republicans who want to oust Trump in November's election
Tim Reid
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Jimmy Tosh, who runs a multi-million dollar hog and grain farm in Tennessee, is a lifelong Republican. He is pro-gun, supports lower taxes and agrees with most of Republican President Donald Trumps agenda.
He is also spending his money to help defeat Trump in Novembers election.
I agree with 80% of the things he does; I just cannot stand a liar, Tosh, 70, said of Trump.
Tosh is one of a growing number of wealthy conservative Americans who say Trump is a threat to democracy and the long-term health of the Republican Party. They are actively supporting his Democratic opponent in the Nov. 3 vote, former Vice President Joe Biden.
Several billionaire and millionaire donors to The Lincoln Project, the most prominent of Republican-backed groups opposing Trumps re-election, told Reuters that elected Republicans should also be punished for enabling him. Some even support the ouster of vulnerable Republican senators to hand control of the chamber to Democrats.
Their money has fueled an unprecedented campaign from members of a sitting presidents own party to oust him from office. This is a sign that Trump has alienated some Republicans, most recently with his response to the coronavirus pandemic and nationwide protests over police brutality against Black Americans.

(5,935 posts)These people may succeed in getting rid of bad-seed Trump and for good reasons. But, they'll be back, supporting a more outwardly moral and seemingly more normal candidate who will do their right-wing bidding.
For the moment, I welcome the push-back against Trump. But these people don't have the needs of Americans in mind when they're pushing back. They have their own agenda.

(171,091 posts)'met' someone like mf45. I sincerely hope he's an anomaly, but you're right. The wealthy people pushing back are probably as selfish as he is, but I do detect some morals, which he doesn't have.

(10,885 posts)tRump wasn't on the national scene at the time, but it turns out they're personal friends for the last 20 years or so, and they've been photographed socializing on several occasions including at Mar-a-Lago. He's tRump's clone, like him in every way. It's a good thing my paycheck doesn't rely on this swine anymore because I wouldn't be able to work for him with donnie in the WH and the US is going to hell. The clash would be astronomical.

(149,699 posts)I am sure that their efforts will help bring about his defeat.
And I'm also cheered by their stand on bringing down the republicans who have supported tRump. They must all be banished.
This is unprecedented and I applaud it!

(171,091 posts)rich people who support him. Most didn't get rich by being dumb. He's made them money; I guess that's their priority.

(3,579 posts)If Trump is re-elected then he is as great a threat to the rich as he is to the rest of us.
The rich helped Hitler obtain power (secret donations and no so secret) and once he was firmly established, he turned on them.
Imagine Trump with another 4 years and a GOP Senate - I suspect that he would start locking them up, probably starting with his political enemies. And the DOJ and Senate would do nothing.
Once he has eliminated his political enemies - then he would just blackmail the rich or turn the wheels of government against them.
Once the GOP Senate is compromised (more so than they are now) - then he owns them and what happens next? Maybe we should look again to history and even more to what Putin has recently done - another 26 years as the man in charge of Russia.
My thoughts.
P.S. I suspect that a lot of the Police that Trump has deployed might be related or belong to BlackWater.

(10,885 posts)for Chump b/c he needs to keep one finger on the thought of getting re-elected. If by some satanic miracle, he wins again, there's nothing to stop him from running completely off the rails. He could make this term look like child's play.
