Goodell: Training camps will open on time, NFL will play a full season

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says all remaining issues have been addressed for the league to play a full season as scheduled.

Goodell said the league and the players’ union have agreed on every issue that needs to be agreed upon for training camps to open and the full regular season and postseason to be played.

“The NFL clubs and NFL Players Association approved an agreement that broadly resolves all outstanding issues relating to the opening of training camps and start of the 2020 season. Training camps will begin as scheduled,” Goodell said.

“We have worked collaboratively to develop a comprehensive set of protocols designed to minimize risk for fans, players, and club and league personnel. These plans have been guided by the medical directors of the NFL and the NFLPA and have been reviewed and endorsed by independent medical and public health experts, including the CDC, and many state and local public health officials. The season will undoubtedly present new and additional challenges, but we are committed to playing a safe and complete 2020 season, culminating with the Super Bowl.”

I wouldn't be so sure about that, Goodell. I surely wouldn't wager in it.

Um, Rog, you forgot one thing you arrogant, entitled ass....the biggest issue in the room, Covid-19. How will you play a "full season" when you will have players pulled from the game with this virus????

Unlike other sports, a full team roster is 53 players then there are at least 20 coaches, then training staff and doctors - all on the field at the same time. Not to mention refs and emergency personnel in case of a serious injury.

Multiply that by two for each game and we're up around 200 people just to play a game.

And training camps - before cuts - have upwards of 75 players participating.

I will (and do) sorely miss football but it just seems impossible that a season can be played no matter what protocols they put in place.

Andy Reid (Eagles fan here, but love the guy).

It's one thing for a 22 year old incredibly healthy athlete to get it as he would have a pretty good chance of coming out on the other side in one piece, whereas a 67 year old (as you say rightfully), overweight workaholic would more than likely run into some problems.

The issue I have with the headlong rush into playing the season is that it's being done for one reason: Money - for the league, Vegas and advertisers.

Seriously?

How is the league going to make sure fans wear their masks throughout the game? All the yelling will spread the virus like wildfire

The NFL already plans to let teams tarp off the lower rows in their stadiums and use it for advertising space.

It will be a long fall and winter without football. I wonder if the players are going to wear masks during the games. It's hard to social distance in football. I have always thought baseball would have the best chance to re-open because they can social distance during the game.
