The Trump effect

Derwin Gonzalez AmericaNow @gonzalezderwin 4h
Ten nights ago there were 50 kids raising hell every night at the federal courthouse...
Then Trump sent his thugs to "quell" the protest.
The whole building must be shaking tonight.

because he is racist and mean. While that is certainly part of it, his goal is to stir up more shit and escalate the situation. A toddler can tell that using more police brutality to stop a protest about police brutality is like throwing gasoline on a fire.

To the protesters, the police or agents involved in these actions are proving their point. To those on the side of the police, the protesters are being seen as lawless anarchists who want to overthrow the government.

Trump wants to divide Americans as much as he can. He wants us to be at each other's throats so that the civil race war that his followers have been stocking up for (guns, ammo, food, etc.) can commence. Some people, such as Putin, would benefit greatly if the U.S. became mired in a domestic war and unable to commit any meaningful action on the world stage. I hope Americans will see through all of this bullshit and elect same people this fall, if we're still able to hold an election.

...not just a shoestring group of young folks anymore.

What I'm seeing is the protests becoming a springboard of opposition to Trump, in addition to activism against police violence. Trump has nationalized these local protests to the extent that most BLM actions are thoroughly integrated, encompassing several demographics in age, race, gender, even political affiliation.

What hasn't succeeded is this cynical attempt to portray the protests as a threat that Trump needs to quell. He's made it clear he's the antagonist, and it's just not sitting right with most Americans to have their president inciting violence and unrest in the middle of a pandemic.

...aside from boogaloos stirring up shit.

the campaign to make this look like America out of control isn't working, in most part because most Americans recognize the provocation. It's not as if this is something out of character for Trump, and he's pretty much vocalized his political scheme for everyone to judge for themselves. This isn't some clever psy-op, it's a stupid, transparent provocation which is backfiring.

It's an ugly time in America. Yet there is still beauty and strength. The ugliness, by nature, is attacking the beauty and strength.

...and sense of fairness as bigotry asserts itself like it's welcome in this country.

Maybe not as quickly as we need, or might like, maybe not as clearly as we might want, but this movement has sparked a pivot back to a sense of solidarity and community around the nation, around these protests. The ugliness is always glaring, but a rising number have made the effort to provide beauty in numbers to counter.

Not something anticipated by this cynical 'law and order' push by lawless government goons.
