satellite shows upper level wind shear opposing hurrican douglas near Hawaii

stream of bright white high clouds moving left to right on the left side of video is high clouds way up in the atmosphere.

the pale clouds moving right to left over most of the image are low level tradewind clouds around 8000 feet or less.

the hurricane is off the screen to the right, with clouds from near sea level to the heights of the wind shear clouds.

when the hurricane bumps into the opposing upper level shear the hurricane weakens. if the shear is strong enough it will blow the top off the hurricane and kill it.

unfortunately for hawaii this shear is rather weak compared to usual

250400Z POSITION NEAR 17.9N 145.4W.
25JUL20. HURRICANE 08E (DOUGLAS), LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 628 NM
EAST OF HILO, HAS TRACKED WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT 17 KNOTS OVER THE

MAXIMUM SIGNIFICANT WAVE HEIGHT AT 250000Z IS 50 FEET. NEXT
WARNINGS AT 251000Z, 251600Z, 252200Z AND 260400Z.

Appears it will slowly be weakening over the next few days but still strong and dangerous for Hawaii as it passes right over or very near the islands.

Interesting how your satellite graphic showed two systems appearing to counter each other over the islands.
