ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – President Trump and Attorney General announced that 35 federal agents will be coming to Albuquerque under a surge that the White House is calling “Operation Legend.” President Trump made the announcement Wednesday saying Albuquerque needs help stopping and solving violent crime.

President Trump highlighted one of Albuquerque’s unsolved murders from 2019, the Jacqueline Vigil murder. He also had the victim’s husband speak. “That memory comes back and it haunts me… and Jackie my wife, did not deserve to be killed that way, nobody does,” said Sam Vigil.

In 2019 Jacqueline Vigil was killed in her own driveway near Unser and Ladera around 5 a.m. as she was heading to the gym. Eight months later and police have not made any arrests in the case.

President Trump announced Albuquerque and Chicago will get a bolstered federal law enforcement presence under “Operation Legend.” The Department of Justice says they are committing an additional 35 federal agents from the FBI, ATF, DEA and US Marshals Office to the effort.
