General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMy 95 year old mother succumbed to covid-19 this morning.
Her husband of 71 years is also positive and quarantined.
She died alone and probably terrified for the. Past 7 days
While I am devastated I'm also angry. Angry at those that failed to act in a timely fashion that surely would have saved many lives. And I am especially angry with those who doubt the seriousness of this virus.
For those who say the numbers are inflated... not for me. For those that think old people are expendable, she wasn't for me and the 6 generations she was the matriarch of.. And for those who feel their rights and freedom are compromised by wearing a mask in public, a very special Fuck you.

It is unfathomable for someone to live a safe, long life with the decades of experience to pass on to others to be victimized.
The victims of this horrific mismanagement of a terrible disease are lives that can never be replaced. The tragedy is that it should not be like this at all.
I am so very sorry, my deepest condolences. I understand your deep pain and loss and anger. This should not be.

(9,895 posts)No one should ever have to experience that, but for your parents to be parted like that after 71 years of marriage is beyond cruel, I honestly can't think of anything more heinous to be visited on someone in their position. My heart breaks for them even though we never met.
You anger is righteous and should be remembered by all on November 3rd. ANYONE even thinking about skipping the vote needs to hear this and understand that we are being asked to choose whether this is OK and acceptable or beyond the pale and hideous.

(804 posts)So very sorry for your loss jaysunb. I understand your grief. My 93 year old mother is in an assisted living center here in Albuquerque. Thus far, the facility has been Covid free. I pray that it stays that way. Like your mother, mine means everything to her kids and grand kids. We have google chats every week but that is it. My mom is not computer savvy at all, and is dependent on others to assist her to call us. We are very scared for her. Unfortunately, none of her 3 daughters can visit her as we are all considered "high risk" because of our age. Even if we could, no visitors are allowed into the facility. I share your intense anger at those who failed to act when so many lives could have been saved.

(12,412 posts)My wife works in an ER and ICU. We have recently grown close to an elder couple, though we are somewhat elder ourselves, who are both positive. He in his 80's has been admitted twice, currently in ICU. His wife is at home in quarantine with a positive tested son living next door at the same time. Nothing we can do but wait it out and hope for the best as I am sure you know about.
