Anyone else thinking Trump's Troops will end up being in all the swing states save one or two were he can get close?
With a federal court system that .. CAN ... take its ever loving time what recourse do mayors have except arresting kidnappers?
Seems like things ...ARE ... going to get worse
Your take?

How about this scenario - Trump declares a national emergency a few days before election day due to unspecified threats in certain cities and closes 1/2 the polling stations in major cities in swing states?

There are people who would think he'd never do it but anyone who brags about passing a dementia test is insane at best.

(29,674 posts)People to vote via absentee. In Missouri you need it notarized unless you are over 65 or can prove disability. To combat this we are advertising free notaries at farmers markets, school enrollment, etc.

(56,828 posts)must certify that you can't vote on Election Day and we have ZERO early voting. They added Covid-19 as an excuse this year for the primaries at least, but not guaranteed for the General yet

(29,674 posts)But it has to be notarized.
I believe a few groups plan to make two big items their focus for the 2022 ballot in Missouri: mail in voting available to all and recreational marijuana.

(22,130 posts)some IMHO.
We need to be thinking positive thoughts and ignore the POS in the WH, and live our lives as we normally do.
Let Biden (and others) be our voice of reason and sanity and as trump falls apart more and more, Biden will seem more and more like the reasonable candidate to more and more people as time goes on.

I'll flip that.
Why would you credit him, or any of the rest of them, to come up with coherent plan with a specific goal being achieved?
They have demonstrated no such ability, excepting the tax cut, and that was Rs in Congress not an executive branch thing.
Yet, you're attributing to them an ability to have a strategy, when it's obvious they've been winging it for 4&1/2 years. Yes, even before the election there was no plan. Geez, even THEY didn't expect to win.
And finally, you really believe that few people would really have the impact you fear?

(4,461 posts)... I have always believed that Тяцмр is a puppet for fascist interests here at home as much as he is for Putin.
Look at the last 20 years, beginning with the 2000 election, and consider what the Republican Party has accomplished - from financial policies to foreign policies to domestic policies to wealth redistribution to redistricting to the makeup of the courts. They didnt do all of that under a strategic initiative invented by Тяцмр. They are not stupid, inept or shortsighted. Тяцмр is, certainly, but they are not.
They have and are using him to achieve their goals. Bannon and Miller, just to name a couple, are evil fucks - but they have dedicated their lives to destroying what remains of this democratic republic, and they are pretty damn good at it. Do you think it was Тяцмрa idea to strip the leadership and career people from the federal agencies and departments top to bottom? Hell- I doubt he could NAME more that 3 federal agencies if you spotted him 2.
So any time someone posts that Тяцмр cant do this or could never do that, I just shake my head and think they havent been paying attention. He WILL do whatever they tell him to do, and whether its legal or constitutional is beside the point. No, let me correct that - actually his actions being illegal or unconstitutional is precisely the point.
I think any declaration that our institutions will save us, or that were gonna be ok because Тяцмр is a blithering idiot, are misguided at present. Our only salvation is to overwhelm the vote in November. And sometimes I fear that may not be enough.
ProfessorGAC
(65,060 posts)...we disagree.
They're fumbling in the dark and occasionally luck into something that works for them.
I don't believe there are that many strategically bright folks, including those behind the scenes.
Do they have bad ideas? Absolutely.
Do they have financial resources? Yes again.
But, I don't think they're all that capable of sustained strategic plans.

(4,461 posts)... I am wrong. I would look forward to my crow.
I think the real movers and shakers stay well behind the curtain most of the time. All we see is the stage show. Most of us dont really know who they are and likely have never heard of them. I think they like it that way.
They dont really care if Тяцмр is incompetent (and, like you, I believe he and his immediate administration certainly are), as long as he sets the table for them to feed on society.

Second, Federal officials have no role in local elections, and DNC and ACLU lawyers as well as local District Attorneys would be standing by to break up any interference.

local District Attorneys would be standing by to break up any interference.
Are they PERSONALLY going to arrest the Trump Troops harassing voters standing in extra long lines waiting to vote?
No?
Great, cause we both understand when it comes to Trump only force matters not law and if there's no force there's no law.
I mean, at this point ... we should put NOTHING ... past Trump

<snip>
The funders of the RNCs 2020 legal war chest are a whos who of plutocrats and industry titans for whom a $100,000 check to the president is pocket change. According to an analysis of election records by Rolling Stone, these funders include L.L. Bean heiress Linda Bean, private-equity magnate Stephen Schwarzman, Johnson & Johnson heir Ambassador Woody Johnson, Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.), the Ricketts family that founded TD Ameritrade, coal barons Joe Craft and Robert Murray, billionaire financiers John Paulson and John W. Childs, financial executive Charles Schwab, Madison Square Garden owner James Dolan, and Marvel Entertainment chairman Ike Perlmutter. Its no surprise to see that the list of wealthy people bankrolling the RNCs attack on voting rights includes some of the biggest benefactors of the Trump administrations economic policy, says Morris Pearl, chair of Patriotic Millionaires. They dont want to protect our elections they want to protect their positions of privilege.
<snip>
Republicans hired county deputy sheriffs and local policemen with revolvers, two-way radios, and National Ballot Security Task Force armbands to patrol predominantly black and Hispanic precincts in New Jersey. They posted large warning signs outside polling places saying that it was a crime to falsify a ballot or to violate election laws. The signs omitted any mention of the GOPs role in this egregious intimidation scheme, but the intent was obvious: to harass and intimidate duly qualified black and Hispanic voters for the purpose and with the effect of discouraging these voters from casting their ballots, the lawsuit stated.
