Feds will target Albuquerque

Both New Mexico Senators, Democrats Udall and Heinrich, tweeted tonight that Trump’s thugs are planning to occupy Albuquerque. Apparently, it will be at the request of the Bernalillo County Sheriff, Manuel Gonzales. There have been no BLM protests in Albuquerque since June. The reason Gonzales is headed to DC to talk to Trump (besides the fact that he must be an epic Republican ass) is because of crime in the city. Please. Neither the APD nor Albuquerque mayor want this. Heinrich’s tweet (I’ll try to link below) states he heard the news from the US Atty for Albuquerque. Heinrich went on to say he thinks Gonzales should resign, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican.

Here are the links, I hope.

But apparently the goon squad invaded Portland at the request of the president of the police union.

Once Trump gets bored with bullying Portland, there's going to be a reckoning, and Daryl Turner is going to have to answer a lot of very pointed questions.

Turner was the only person who met with "acting" Secretary Chad Wolf when he came to town. Wolf didn't meet with the mayor, the governor, or anyone on the Portland City Council. Wolf's pretext for the invasion was that Turner asked him in. I'm confident that Turner's going to be answering for that to the City Council.

Unfortunately, once the camel is in the tent, so to speak, it's not so easy to dislodge it. The Oregon Attorney General has filed a federal suit, as have the Western States Center Inc.; First Unitarian Church of Portland, Oregon; Sara D. Eddie; State Representative Janelle S. Bynum; and State Representative Karin A. Power for civil rights violations. We'll have to wait to see what a federal judge has to say.

President Donald Trump is using the Department of Homeland Security in unprecedented ways as he tries to bolster his law and order credentials .. in the lead-up to the November elections.

His plan to deploy federal agents to Chicago and perhaps other Democratic-run cities .. represents Trump’s latest effort to use an agency that was created after the Sept. 11 attacks to thwart terrorists to .. bolster his reelection chances.

Trump has already deployed Homeland Security agents to Portland, Oregon .. drawing intense criticism from local leaders who say the federal presence has only exacerbated tensions rather than promoting public safety.

“This is precisely the type of tyrannical deployment of power that the Founding Fathers were specifically worried about,” said Jeffrey A. Engel, director of Center for Presidential History at Southern Methodist University ...

Arrests made by federal officers over the July Fourth weekend and several days after were for relatively minor offenses not typically prosecuted in federal court ...

By Matthew Reichbach

... Mayor Tim Keller said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon, “There’s no place for Trump’s secret police in our city.”

“If this was more than a stunt, these politicians would support constitutional crime fighting efforts that work for our community, not turning Albuquerque into a federal police state. We will not sell out our own community, or our own police department, for this obvious political agenda; as they try to incite violence by targeting our city and our residents,” Keller continued.

Albuquerque Police Department Chief Mike Geier similarly criticized the proposed use of federal agents.

“What is being described is not real crime fighting; it’s politics standing in the way of police work. Contrary to the claims of the politicians in Washington, D.C., we came into long-standing challenges with crime in Albuquerque and have worked closely with our community to make the city safer,” Geier said. “Homicides are down this year and protests have been mostly peaceful in Albuquerque and much less violent and destructive than other cities because of our focus on reform and community policing” ...

... Mike Geier, chief of Albuquerque Police Department, appeared wary of the reason federal forces would be sent to Albuquerque.

“I truly hope this is a not just a cheap political stunt that will only make our city less safe. We coordinate with our federal law enforcement partners every day. What is being described is not real crime fighting; it’s politics standing in the way of police work," Geier said.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque City Council President Pat Davis is firing off on Sheriff Manny Gonzales and his plans to meet with President Trump for a public safety meeting.

“Now we see that the President is planning to looking at Albuquerque to send federal officers for help, we are not asking for and don't need and now the sheriff is going to the White House to tell him all about how the president can help us in Albuquerque, and quite frankly we don't need either of their help for this,” Councilman Davis said ...

... The CBS report is particularly troubling given that Bernalillo County Sheriff Manny Gonzales is scheduled to meet with Trump and Attorney General William Barr Wednesday to discuss crime as part of Operation Relentless Pursuit, a Department of Justice program launched in December of last year.

The program was reportedly aimed at driving down crime in seven cities, which Albuquerque was included in.

Dozens of civil rights groups jointly submitted a letter last week to the House Committees on Appropriations and Oversight and Reform in opposition to the program, which they say “encourages the over-policing of Black and Brown communities while doing nothing to increase public safety.”

U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich called for Gonzales’ resignation on Tuesday ...

Unless they are claiming the Pacific Ocean as a "border," and even then, there is the 200 mile exclusion zone that can be interpreted as a border.

I think Wolf was just looking to flex some muscle at the expense of a few unarmed civilians.

We traveled from Düsseldorf to Truro, MA on July 4th. Since then, we haven't really gone anywhere. An occasional shopping jaunt to Wellfleet (next town down) or Provincetown (next town up, and the tip of the Cape), but otherwise, we've been staying here.

That's all over with in 10 days

Every year, when we arrive here, I always warn that the time here will go by as if it were a blink of an eye, and every year, I'm right.

On the 1st, we will drive back to Boston and ditch the car, and spend the night in town. The next day, my wife flies back to Germany, and I fly down to Dallas. My wife is terrified of me going to Texas at this time, but there is stuff I have to do there that has been waiting for me since March. I can't put it off forever, and as long as I'm in North America already, I might as well get it done. I'm only going from the airport to the house, and then to the office and back or to the doctor and back. Then up to Langley and then back to Düsseldorf. If the Germans make me quarantine for 2 weeks, so be it. There isn't much going on workwise in the last two weeks of August anyway. Not Deadsville like Paris, but not far off, either. Maybe a run over to Sprout City for the day, but that is probably it.
