(205,405 posts)Just thinking how different life in this country would be right now if it had hit when Obama was still in office and we still had experts like this guy still working for us (instead of Trump enablers ) - and how many THOUSANDS of American lives could have been saved.

Too DAMN LATE to Save Thousands of LIVES.

(205,405 posts)It's way too late no matter what he says now, his "followers" are convinced that this is "a hoax," they refuse to wear masks and they've somehow managed to ignore the rising death toll that we continue to hear about every day! And the experts who we need to hear from have been sidelined, major hospitals are in crisis and the record keeping and tracing that we need to get this pandemic under some kind of control are unavailable or nonexistent. South Korea is managing it, but the most advanced nation on the planet continues to listen to an incompetent gasbag!

(14,854 posts)We have many right-wing lying sociopaths in mass media here, and it was clear back in March which side they were taking.
They downplayed the virus then, and most of them are still doing it. They have to "win" at all cost against other people, and admitting they were wrong would count as a loss in their minds.

(205,405 posts)Governors who support Trump in the hardest hit states are arguing with mayors who are trying to get this under control and save lives. The damage has been done and he can't take it back.

(14,854 posts)Many of them treat politics like the devoted fan of a sports team. It's usually not a rational choice in the first place, but it's "their team" and that's that.

(205,405 posts)The impeachment hearings were the best example of that. The evidence was out there and presented convincingly, but their minds were made up and they just ignored it, the same way that they're doing now. Only this time, thousands are dying.

(90,690 posts)...and has galled me from the beginning.
We KNOW how to do this or at least scientists and public health officials most certainly do, even if a segment of the population is pig-ignorant and hostile to science.
My gods, even a 3rd World nation with an intelligent leader could get a grip on an outbreak in their country if they mandated handwashing, masks, physical distancing, contact tracing, and quarantines.
There is no earthly excuse for what is happening in the United States.
Thnks for the post Rhiannon.

(205,405 posts)We STILL have yet to take action, except in the states that have smart and proactive governors and they have gotten nothing but grief from Trump - as have the medical experts who know what we should have been doing and they have been sidelined and pushed aside by Trump. It's inexcusable and not only have Americans been dying, but now we're a pariah in the rest of the world! I agree, there is no excuse!

(205,405 posts)Before there are none of us left to clean up the horrific mess he's created. We had the perfect chance back in January and I also hold the Republicans who refused to hold him responsible for his crimes complicit in the terrible and rising coronavirus death toll which he continues to ignore!

(14,491 posts)I feel we're no longer a shining light on the hill but rather a dim bulb in the basement.
Never has there been a better example of how important leadership at the top is most crucial in a national emergency.
Can't imagine how bad it would be if we got involved in a major war......

(205,405 posts)It boggles the mind to realize that this is still going on with no plan and no end in sight - and that there are people who just accept it, let alone support Trump who is the "dim bulb" in chief! Meanwhile, people continue to get sick and die (I heard 44 states cited on the news today!), yet we're still without a plan except to sit and wait for it "to go away!"
