I was dismayed when Trump won the election. (If indeed he did).
I knew he was racist, misogynist, and a failure at business who had created an image which was based on lies.
I knew he had stumbled through life moving from one lawsuit to the next, never taking responsibility for anything.
I didn't anticipate that he would have so little respect for our constitution and for our institutions.
I didn't anticipate that he would surround himself with unqualified sycophants.
I didn't anticipate that he had so little empathy that he would sit back and do nothing while thousands of people die from a virus.
I didn't anticipate that he would have total, unqualified subservience to an adversary of the United States who wants to destroy us.
He's just so much worse than I ever feared, in every way.

They didn't have any copies of Mary Trump's book at Barnes & Noble the other day. They ordered a copy for me, to be sent to my house. I hope it doesn't take too long, I'm anxious to read it.

(31,519 posts)I can't wrap my head around the fact that Congressional Republicans have gone along with his worst ideas and actions and defended him.
They all need to go.

(58,785 posts)disorders through my work before he ran and knew they were very real. With him pushing into public attention for decades, it would have been impossible not to suspect/recognize the kinds of very serious things wrong with him that clinicians were identifying in patients.
And also just from reading in the media about Trump and various bizarre and/or probably criminal behaviors over the decades. NYer Garry Trudeau gave up trying to ignore him and turned him into a 30-year Doonesbury character.
Knock wood, but for the first couple of years I clicked or turned on the news early each morning to reassure myself that we hadn't murdered millions of people while I was sleeping. Could still happen, but I've come to believe fear of his power itself and consequences are probably part of what's kept him from carrying through his various "fire and fury" threats.

(32,626 posts)he wouldn't know enough to do most of what has been done. He doesn't know the names of the agencies that are being gutted. No one person could get away with any of his bullshit, without the complete support of the Republican party, and those they serve, and a lot of what is going on is not by design..but due to unforeseen circumstances providing opportunity.

(9,895 posts)THAT was and remains my greatest fear with this idiotic painted clown in charge.
He is the most dangerous human being in history because he is authorized to launch the most powerful weapons in human history and he has been itching to do it since he was installed by the Electoral College and voting malfeasance.

(999 posts)Although not religious anymore, I knew from the bible about the evils of greed and selfishness. I've now seen just how STUPID this country has been in embracing greed and selfishness, thanks to Reagan and the 80s.
Just looking from the period of 2001 to 2015, I knew that this country was headed toward dictatorship, with the installation of the security state and antiterrorism laws that gave the government vast powers, as well as the NDAA and the militarization of the police. We barely survived Bush, and I knew that Obama bought us some time, but I knew that eventually a Republican would go and claim the dictatorship. It seems that Trump saw the opportunity and decided that he wanted to be the dictator.
