Trump: Many positive coronavirus cases shouldn't even be cases because young people heal in a day

With coronavirus cases rising across the country and the U.S. death toll topping 137,000, President Trump on Sunday dismissed concerns about the spike in infections, telling Fox News that “many of those cases shouldn’t even be cases.”

“Many of those cases are young people that would heal in a day,” the president told Fox News host Chris Wallace in an interview. “They have the sniffles and we put it down as a test.”

While young people make up an increasing share of new cases, the virus has affected people in all age groups. A surge of infections is driving deaths back up again after months of decline, and hospitals in hard-hit states such as Florida, Texas and Arizona are facing an influx of patients that health officials say could soon overwhelm medical systems. Nationwide, hospitalizations were on track to exceed their previous peak of roughly 60,000, reached in the pandemic’s early months.

This fact is so difficult for people to wrap their heads around. It seems so contrary to our more romantic notions about human nature. We ASSUME that Trump is well intentioned, but that his good intentions are stunted by his abject ignorance (and his damaged early life).

I don't think so. I think that he's immersed in hatred, revenge, and doing harm to others- the more the better. He can't be an object of sympathy because he's committed to malevolence. He's not a victim. He's an antagonist. Most of us don't understand this. And while we're trying to figure it out, Trump keeps on killing. And he keeps getting the benefit of the doubt. This gives him more freedom to kill because he knows that most of the nation just doesn't understand him. While they're out to lunch, Trump is depopulating and disabling the nation. Trump is deliberately rigid in his thinking. He can only find a way to act if he's not accountable. Notice that unaccountability is the end result of all of his actions.

that we aren't testing people to treat them. The severity of their specific infection is not at question. The point of testing is to identify cases and act to prevent more spread.

Getting a positive test doesn't change your treatment plan from what you would get with a diagnosis from symptoms alone. It just lets you know that you need to quarantine yourself and contacts should be notified and tested.

Pushing this idea that if you are young you don't need to worry about it is borderline manslaughter. Yeah if you are young and generally healthy you are *probably* going to be just fine.....but if you don't know you have it you could spread it to dozens or hundreds of other people and some number of those people are going to have very bad outcomes.
