Actually cut the grass at noon. Just went outside to put new air filters in both our cars. It was so hot I lost my concentration and had to step over into a shadow.
99 degrees- feels like 106 according to the Weather Channel app.

(182,830 posts)The grass has stopped growing it seems. I only had one area to cut. Manual lawnmower-no gas.
Yeah I made it as quick as possible

(182,830 posts)Pre Gatorade, mustard and pickle juice was the way to stay hydrated. The mustard thing is still a tradition at the Naval Academy for their Freshman hell day.

(86,650 posts)I wonder why I've never heard of that! Have recipe or guide for proportions? Seriously, I'd like to try it.
All Gatorade does in heat is give me a headache. Now after a vomiting episode, it's fantastic.

(182,830 posts)Thats the purpose of the mustard. Mustard then water.
Pickle juice has salt and fluid.

(9,952 posts)heat. I walked dog about half an hour ago, and was griping about it thru out my walk. Lol. And it is only sitting at 78 now. Hate the heat. This is when I drive over to the ocean, lol. Drops ten to fifteen degrees.

(2,945 posts)temp of between 100 and 105 degrees. This summer we have had more days of 110+ degrees thus far than ever recorded. Neither man nor animal can live in this weather. Biden must not waste time implementing the challenges needed to reverse of global warming.

(17,552 posts)High humidity makes it feel like around 110. It is hot, but it is July, and it is always hot in the third week of July. I limit my outside work to early mornings and wrap up by around 10:00 AM. Next week we have some rain coming which will lower the temps a few degrees, and a few degrees either way, makes a lot of difference when you are talking high 90s. Our weather will be very hot until late October, we will have a few weeks of cold weather in Dec or Jan, then six months of Spring-like weather, so it all works out.
I enjoyed long days and hot weather when I was younger, but at near 70, my cooling system just does not work as well as it used to, so I spend the hot weather hunkered down in the air conditioning.

(182,830 posts)until my father in law realized that the 27th week meant July in Vegas. Yeah that was the term they used instead of saying it was the third week in July.
Hey, my wife and I went and got a free week in Vegas - I think it was in February. We made the drive to the Grand Canyon.

(182,830 posts)IF our AC goes out, would you be comfortable getting a hotel room?
My wife is super lets say aware of this virus situation. Never leaves the house. She was on this back from the beginning and had all the numbers right from early on.
The other option is using the AC in the cars or buying a window unit.
As pilots say - dont play for IF the engines cuts, plan for WHEN it cuts off.

(38,601 posts)As a kid when our AC died my folks would take us to the movies, or wed hang out in the grocery store to cool off.
Cant really do that now.

We were way poorer than my brother or I realized.

Highs in the high teens to mid twenties all summer so far.
And enough rain to keep things nice and green (but not without the mosquitoes). I'll take mosquito season over smoke season any time though (we seem to be alternating between the two the past few years).
Myself, I start to wilt when it gets close to 30 (86 F).

(7,781 posts)We had a billion-dollar hailstorm a little while ago, didn't affect this end of the city though (whew). For some reason, the worst storms hit the northeast part of Calgary; where I am is relatively calm.

(5,641 posts)Mowed my 2 acres a couple days ago and boy was it hot. We have lots of trees so that helped, but it has been real dry and it was very dusty. I think I swallowed and breathed in a pound of dust. Should have worn a mask, but it was so darn hot I forgot. Next time I will have to mask up as I was coughing for a couple hours after mowing.
We keep our house at a balmy 80 because we don't like to run the AC all the time. You get used to it after a while.

(182,830 posts)I saw dust flying up. We are watering once the sun sets. Its going to be 85 here at 11PM.

(17,444 posts)I was going to rake over about a 12 square foot bare area and plant some grass. Stepped out side and said "Nope" and walked back in the house.
I thought my nurse practitioner was going to kill me one day when I told her I spent 14 hours in the hot sun building tree rings.
Her words were...are you suicidal? I said no. Are you drinking a lot of water? Yes I am. Well, you're in your 60's. Your kidney tests show that you have damaged your kidneys. You said you sweat a lot...there is probably no amount of water you can get into you in time that would prevent you from getting dehydrated when you do stupid shit like that. DON'T DO THAT ANYMORE!!!!

(4,443 posts)Went out and mowed the lawn this afternoon. Took about 2 hours and I was sweating buckets. Now I'm back inside drinking Gatorade like my life depends on it.
Wife is refusing to do our daily walk, due to heat/humidity, and I ain't putting up an argument.

(63,221 posts)Went to breakfast with a friend around 9am this morning and it was pretty hot, but not quite this bad yet. I hate the heat! I don't know what I would do without AC. I am such a miserable person in the heat if I can't be in AC or swim.

(14,492 posts)95 deg-F but the humidity is only around 45% so it does nor feel so bad outside.
Years ago when I did a bunch of work in the High Desert in Wyoming, I learned the hard way that very low humidity can be dangerous. Being raised in the South, I instinctively relate dangerous heat with severe sweating which I did not do in the desert due to low humidity (10-to-15% many days). I got really dehydrated a few times before I learned to use other indicators as a gauge.
Everyone please keep some water out for your birds in a shady spot if you can.
