Donald Trump actually said in the Wallace interview

When he was going off on Fauci about his mistakes as well as the mistakes of the WHO Wallace challenged him by bringing up all his statements including it “will just go away”. Without even missing a beat (which is scary) he says “and I will be proven right on that. It will go away someday.”

So now apparently the measuring stick for success in his mind is if it eventually is gone, not how many people die or have permanent health damage.

She writes that when it comes to COVID-19 he will do what he's always done in every other situation: keep moving the goalposts so he never, ever has to admit he was wrong about anything. He'll celebrate a quarter million or a half a million dead Americans because it's not two million dead Americans, he'd celebrate two million dead Americans because it's not five million dead Americans, and so on.

compared to that, a few hundred thousand or even million people dying is nothing.

That this virus will remain at a lesser degree for generations, such as the flu and common cold, et al.

Another factor, anti vaxxers, who will refuse to take the vaccine when available. So therefore, shithole is again is wrong.

Meanwhile, we are at a pandemic level wherein people are dying and suffering from this and shithole alongwith the republicans just do not care.
