Chris Wallace asked him about changing the names of military bases named after Rebels. Trump asked if we should name them after Al Sharpton.

A tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen,
a group of African-American United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) servicemen during World War II.

(53,791 posts)like the Phoenix Suns, Colorado Rockies, Dallas Cowboys or the Los Angeles Lakers (once located in Minn, land of 10m lakes). I'm proud on the Tuskegee Airmen but where is the connection to Washinton DC but the word "red"?
How about going in the recent trend of naming teams as a singular characteristic of the team locale like "The Heat" of Miami or the "Colorado Avalance" and call the team just "The District"?

(13,903 posts)Naming the bases after confederates was a political act to intimidate, and bolster American conservative/reactionary ideology.
It had nothing to do with history.

(146,317 posts)He is an uneducated person. Naming all US military bases after Medal of Honor recipients would be the ideal solution for the problem. I'm betting that Donald J. Trump, though, could not come up with the name of even one Medal of Honor recipient, so the idea would never occur to him.
Nobody would object to that naming method, and it could include recipients of every ethnicity and race. It would not be controversial in any way whatsoever.
But, Trump doesn't know about Medal of Honor recipients, so the idea is meaningless to him.

MineralMan
(146,317 posts)Rush Limbaugh was never even in the military.
The Medal of Honor is strictly a military honor.
He was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Trump. Not the Medal of Honor.

(2,769 posts)It's almost as bad to give the Medal of Freedom to Rush, as the MoH.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)really has no requirements. A President can give one to anyone he wants to.
The Congressional Medal of Honor, however, has very exacting requirements of heroism beyond what is normal. That's why so many MoH recipients receive it posthumously.
There is no comparison whatsoever between the two awards.
I can't imagine how anyone could confuse the two.
