A friend's sister died of COVID 19 today

She was 70, wasn’t leaving her house at all. She had diabetes but managed it well.

She had the cleaning lady come in. That’s how they think she got sick.

Diagnosed yesterday, brought to hospital and died today. Family in shock.

From upstate NY. An area that has had relatively few cases.

general area of upstate NY? No problem if you don't want to. I'm just curious, because that's where I am.

I’ll be 70 in four months and I have left the house many times. The only difference is that no one has been in here since
mid-March. I live just outside LA, in Ventura County.

I go grocery shopping, and recently caught up on things like my annual physical. Visited my sister in-law today while hubby repaired his brother’s computer, had a soda there, stayed outside on the patio, but mostly kept my mask on. I love them dearly, but their decision to not isolate spooks me.

I really do not want anyone in the house. I used to have a cleaning lady, but it has been several months since I essentially laid her off. Probably early March, like you.

You are right, this is a scary as hell news item.

We are thinking of having them back but when they show up my elderly mother will go out of the apartment for a couple hours while they'd clean. And then when she comes back a really good disinfecting ourselves just to be sure. It's sad it has to come to that though

We're in Central New York. We're still in total lockdown, and plan to continue.

At this point there's no effing way my kids are going back to school this fall.

Condolences on your friend's sister.

loved ones and family

I used to live in Little Falls, New York, for 12 years, until 2010 when I came back to retire here.

Do you know what symptoms she had? Mahalo.. 70 is way too young.

My condolences to your friend and I am sure you are making sure she has support

This story makes me even sadder because it reminds also that so many people who are taking this pandemic seriously and are taking precautions and safe measures are still getting sick. It was likely the simple fact that at 70 she did have a cleaning lady coming in to help her at her age and sadly that person was in contact in the outside world and in contact with infected people. What else was she to do? I am sure that she needed some help and even wanted to support the cleaning lady and her family. I am not 70, and can clean and do just fine on my own, but I know a woman who supports her family cleaning and I just couldn’t take the chance of hiring her. I instead have sent her Safeway gift cards from my family monthly during this pandemic.

I really just cry so hard about what is happening to so many of my fellow Americans. I see in Germany and Europe how they have handled the pandemic and they have not only flattened the curve, it’s pretty much flat. People aren’t dying like they are here in US and people have healthcare and aren’t going hungry.

It’s a crime what is being done to Americans. Crimes against humanity.

started to take off, we had a really nice Asian lady who came in once a week, usually laden with purchases she would make in the Asian markets before coming to work.

We’re both in our 70’s, hubby was almost 78. I made a very quick decision to let her go. This was in FEBRUARY. We just couldn’t take any chances. It was soo hard to do, she was such a beautiful soul, always smiling, eager to help with anything, etc.

I hope she is alright today, I think I will call her daughter and ask. Her mom didn’t speak much English.
