N.Y. Senate Democrats raise more than $2 million through first half of 2020
ALBANY In a substantial boost to their campaign coffers, New York Senate Democrats will report Wednesday that they raised more than $2 million over the past six months amid the coronavirus crisis.
The party, which took over the majority in the upper chamber in 2018, pulled in a total of $2.2 million since January, the Daily News learned Wednesday. They now have $5.2 million cash on hand heading into Novembers general election.
Senate Republicans began the year with only $341,000 in their coffers and currently have roughly $589,000 on hand.
The Dem totals include both the partys main fundraising committee as well as its housekeeping account, which has no limits on donations but can only be used for select expenditures.
Sen. Michael Gianaris (D-Astoria), the Deputy Majority Leader and the chair of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, said the fact that Dems were able to increase their balance by such a significant amount is a tribute to the work the party has done since taking over the chamber.
