Peter DeFazio statement on situation in Portland

I am alarmed by the reports from Portland, Oregon about escalating federal violence against protestors. Civilians exercising their First Amendment rights have been severely injured by anonymous federal law enforcement agents and are now being collected off the street by unmarked federal agents in camouflage uniforms and smuggled away in unmarked vehicles.

This is unacceptable in the United States of America.

These are the actions of an authoritarian regime, not our federal government, Douglas. Trump is subverting our democracy and our constitutional rights to distract from his mismanagement of the COVID-19 crisis and his failing campaign.

I'm calling for an immediate end to the federal occupation in Portland. We cannot stand for these unconstitutional violations of power and you can guarantee that I will be demanding transparency and accountability of this administration.
