While were certainly not the first business to require face coverings, we know this is a simple step everyone can take for their safety and the safety of others in our facilities, the company explains in its announcement. According to the CDC, face coverings help decrease the spread of COVID-19, and because the virus can be spread by people who dont have symptoms and dont know they are infected, its critically important for everyone to wear a face covering in public and social distance.
These basic public health measures arent sitting well with many anti-face mask conservatives, however check out some angry reactions below.

Some choice lines from tweets by RW babies throwing tantrums on Twitter:
obedience masks not about health its about doin what you are told no matter how stupid and breathin yer own used air makes ya stupid its a simple fact and the test is bullshit

(65,061 posts)And a $367 billion company isn't going to worry about a tiny minority of snowflakes.
People will still go there.
No mask, no shopping. Refuse to cooperate, get arrested for trespassing.
Easier to just cooperate.

(34,457 posts)who will shop only where masks are required for their safety, if the store allowed these selfish dopes in.
ProfessorGAC
(65,061 posts)Put the 2 together and there's no reason why they WOULDN'T mandate masks.
Whiners are going to shop anyway (other big box stores now have market forces prompting similar measures, so really no alternative), and tens of millions feel safer going there.
Of course, they'd do this.

(25,183 posts)have all run out of alternatives, because when they abandoned the mom-and-pop stores in their rural areas to load up on cheap Chinese crap at Wal-Mart, Mom and Pop went out of business.
Wal-Mart has destroyed small town America's downtowns.

(14,972 posts)Wal-Mart might not be able to make you wear a mask, but they CAN refuse you entry. Bye-bye antimasker!

(10,830 posts)And the reason I've avoided the store is because barely anyone was wearing a mask. The employees were all masked and gloved. I'd say no more that 10% of the customers were doing the same.
The responses from these people are infantile. Too much QAnon conspiracy influence. Bill Gates and chipping? Give me a break!

(34,136 posts)ANY business owner can require that customers wear marks or can ask them to leave.
I just hope Walmart hires bouncer types that are capable of handling the crazies that think their rights are violated by requiring a mask on private property. After all, greeters have been assaulted and killed for trying to enforce this, even in places where the government has made it part of their policies. In fact, I would bet that in many places more than one person will be needed at the entrances to enforce this new policy.

(22,130 posts)Walmart is being smart.
I'll be happy as I'm going to Walmart today for a couple of things, so this is wonderful news.
Most places in STLMO people have been wearing masks anyway.
Idiots w/o wearing masks (such as the governor of OK who has tested positive for the CV, went to rump's Tulsa rally) are coming down right and left and I expect roughly 10%+ will get seriously sick and perhaps die.
Idiots who I don't feel one bit sad for, considering that they are mocking the deaths of at least 137K+ Americans already at the hands of this dreadful disease. I wouldn't even mind going outside the hospital and mocking these idiots as they are wheeled into the hospitals (unfortunately taking up precious hospital resources due to their idiotic ranting and raving and failing to wear a mask or be safe).

(22,130 posts)And w/ the CV raging, most of my errands are quick in and out trips. I don't dawdle and browse as I used to before when I was at the grocery store now. Too dangerous and just plain smart to get in and out as quickly as you can.
Take care and be safe!

(10,885 posts)Anything that can be done "drive-thru" is, and in-store visits are few and quick, always masked and gloved. Any Walmart shopping is done online, at my door in a day or two.
I noted a few days ago that I'm spending much less $$$ these days without the store browsing. Hopefully (although not counting on it), this will be a habit that remains long after COVID.
Stay safe! Stay well!
