Colbert's Cartoon Team Take The Piss Out Of Rick Wilson & The Lincoln Project
"Inside the Hill's most uncomfortable interview yet, the hosts confront Rick Wilson on his past tweets as well as The Lincoln Project's George W. Bush alum and overhead spending." Brutal.
By Ed Scarce

If you watch closely, about half way through this interview, Rick Wilson gets angry and you wonder if he's just going to get up and leave. He doesn't, but you can just tell he's seething inside. Their argument that Wilson and the rest of the Lincoln Project are just another bunch of savvy grifters, looking to make quick money working against a failed administration that devastated the United States in Trump, as opposed to working for a failed administration that devastated the United States in George Bush has real resonance among liberals. And Rick Wilson didn't like that one little bit. No sir, he did not.

Source: The Week

It doesn't appear Rick Wilson, the longtime Republican strategist who helps run The Lincoln Project super-PAC, knew he was walking into an ambush when he agreed to speak with the cartoon news anchors on CBS's Tooning Out the News, executive produced by Stephen Colbert. The Lincoln Project has been received warmly by many on the left for its ruthless savaging of President Trump. And the interview started out in that vein — until Wilson called Trump "a whining bitch addicted to Twitter," and "Inside the Hill" cartoon anchor Sarah Sabo (Maureen Monahan) jumped in, deadpanning: "Yes, he is a bitch. That is the biggest insult, comparing someone to a woman — I hate us."

Co-anchor Richard Ballard (Addison Anderson) started the battering in earnest by noting that seven members of The Lincoln Project's leadership (though not Wilson) are alumni of George W. Bush's campaign, adding, "I gotta say, we really miss Bush: He always did what was right for the country — and that country being Saudi Arabia." Things got increasingly uncomfortable from there, with Ballard, Sabo, and their color commentators highlighting Wilson's past tweets about liberals then digging into The Lincoln Project's use of its millions in donations.

The coup de grâce was with a Lincoln Project–style video on the "savvy grifters" at The Lincoln Project. Wilson did not appear amused, but there was a slightly lighter moment at the end.

They also provided this helpful chart for distinguishing between the recent Republican presidents.

And unlike some on the right, Rick Wilson doesn't delete his old tweets, apparently.

It will be interesting to see how they behave if they manage to help bring down Trump and turn over the Senate. Are they going to go back to being greedhead, dishonest, enablers of people like Bush? Watching Nicole Wallace now, I can't imagine her working in a heartless administration again. I have a feeling some lessons have been learned, even if they're not fessing up to it. Even stupid Joe Walsh has admitted he had a part in creating Trump.

not attack impure allies. For some on the left, almost no one can pass one purity test or another purity one. We can not only lose every impure ally with purity tests, but many decent Dems in the process - and lose to the republicons.

Stalin was an extremely impure ally. However, 'an allied victory in the anti-fascist war depended on the Soviets defeating Nazi Germany on the Eastern Front.' [History News Network].

The Soviet Union, with major US arms help, mangled the 'invincible' Nazi armies invading Russia, and made Germany itself vulnerable.

Both Colbert and Maher can very entertaining people. As for policy, they can be cavalier - and very ineffective.

As Carville level, proven winner types; Maher and Colbert - do not help the winning cause.

If Rick Wilson wants to do all he can to get Joe Biden into the Oval Office in November, then FUCKING LET HIM.

Without the Lincoln Project pushing our digital teams to up their game, we would be still making committee-made, non-offensive crap which would do zero to move the needle.

Never-Trumpers are vital to defeating Trump, and Colbert should shut his mouth and stay out of it - it's all fun and games until we lose the fucking election.

And personally I hope people didn't and just leave it as two different groups fighting for the same goal: removing trump.

But right now, their ads are effective and we're both pulling from the same side. Once trump is gone, we can part ways and hopefully learn a few things from them regarding their social media/ads handling to use them against them when the time comes. Because these guys aren't Dems and they'll revert to being the "conservative" a-holes they are when Dems are in power.

It's not that complicated.

I couldn't care less what they did before. I don't have to "trust" them, and I don't have to waste my energy being pissed off at them over old news. If they can make some Republican voters see the light and get them to turn, even if it's only this one time, I'm all for it.

Let me put it this way. I'm walking down the street and get hit by a car, badly. Hit and run. No one else is around. A known mobster pulls over and helps me. What do I do, tell him to go fuck himself? I'm sure some people would cut off their nose to spite their face, but I wouldn't.

Let me put it clearly: the goal now is to get rid of that thing in the Oval Office.

Let's keep our eyes on the prize. We are allowed to accept help from people who typically oppose us, after all. It doesn't mean we are indebted to them and have to enact Bush-like legislation.

I choose to be gracious and work together to absolutely crush Donald Trump this November. I want landslide of epic proportions that sends Trump to another dimension and leaves no doubt that his ideology is done.

Secondly, there's the hate from the left, who have largely been sidelined, and purity politics is driving them nuts that the Lincoln Project have been welcomed into the fight against Trump.

Nothing else matters more than beating Trump.
