I had exact change, which saved me from breaking a twenty, because once you break a twenty, it's as good as gone, so I was pleased. When I handed my money to the lady at the counter, she said, "Oh thank you for using change. I honestly think the government is trying to get rid of coin change so they can wield more control over us" to which I responded, "I guess Putin told Trump to stop making coins so he can have more control, as if he doesn't have enough control over our President in the first place. I wonder when people are finally going to realize that the buck, or the silver dollar as the case might be, stops with *him*, and if you, or anyone else feel that "they" are trying to get rid of coin change, HE is the reason why".

(25,183 posts)your aversion to conspiracy theories, but I do believe the powers that be would really like it if most of us stopped using cash. They really love tracking our spending.
I do surveys (e-Rewards) about an hour or so a day to build up airline miles and hotel points for the day when I feel safe using them again, and got a survey yesterday about some sort of Facebook-related pay scheme, like PayPal with rewards. I was asked about a variety of names for the new service, and I kept answering, "It doesn't matter what shade of lipstick you put on the pig, it's still a pig!" and that I simply don't trust Facebook with anything more than my birthday greetings to close friends and an occasional "like" for somebody's pet picture.
The only reason we have smartphones and personal computers is because corporate America sees them as rings implanted in our noses to lead us around with, hence they have offered "free" services to track our lives with, and sell to advertisers.
