7. You may not be aware that the Feds resumed executions in the wee hours of the morning today -

Seventeen years after the last execution, after a 2 AM order from the Supreme court lifting one stay, with a separate stay and multiple motions still pending, they set the execution date for Daniel Lewis Lee a scant two hours after the Supreme Court order.

They carried out the execution without even informing his attorney, only6 hours after the Supreme Court ruling, over the objections of family members of his victims, while the country was asleep.

As someone whose brother came within 36 hours of execution - I can't even imagine going to sleep and waking up the next morning to find the state had murdered my brother, after more than two decades of planning and premeditation.

So today, of all days, guillotine jokes just don't hit the spot.
