That might be a hangover from 3.8 years of Trump.

But I trust Fauci. Since they have turned on Fauci, I wonder how many of the bleating sheep will now likewise badmouth him?

But he probably said it as a veiled way of saying, "you can't trust Trump." or "I have no political agenda." or maybe "please don't believe the smears against me."

I do trust him. He has put himself out there, criticism be damned, on behalf of the good of the people and our country. If all of our leaders had even a fraction of his integrity, we could rest easy.

He has never done anything to betray that trust, unlike the current occupant of the White House and all who surround and support him, who spend every minute of every day either lying or thinking up lies to cover their lies.

Yes Dr. Fauci - we do trust you. This is going to backfire badly on 45, as is everything he touches from now until November!

Dr. Fauci has done the best he could with the cards he has been dealt.

He will still be advising us when tRump is behind bars. Thankfully.

I would suggest that you work in the tRump administration for a while.

Do that for a few months. Then come back here, and let us know how it went.

He said we didn't need the masks, just to maintain social distance. The medical professionals, on the other hand, desperately needed the masks.

Later, as it became evident that the much less effective surgical and cloth masks have some value in preventing the spread of the virus, the advice changed.

I don't recall him ever underplaying the potential for the virus to become a serious problem.

Right at the beginning of it all, when I didn't even know who he was but had read and heard some of his statements, I was telling friends whose heads were swirling with all the contradictory and confusing info going around, "Listen to Dr. Fauci; he knows what he's talking about."

The advice on masks was because trump failed at making sue everyone had enough.. they didn't... So HIS cdc said they don't work. WRONG. They were protecting a failed policy. Fauci fell in line. He is still in line.

he advice was wrong. Masks would have helped. They just weren't available becase the trump admin was restricting them for political/his reasons.

Fauci is complicit. He doesn't deserve our support. Sorry.

PolitiFact and MediaWise are teaming up to debunk misinformation about the coronavirus crisis. To have Coronavirus Facts delivered to your inbox Monday-Friday, click here.

Speaking of old — here’s what I’m talking about: On May 9, a YouTube channel called Voice of the Majority uploaded a clip of Dr. Anthony Fauci telling CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jonathan LaPook that there’s no reason people in the U.S. should wear a mask. One glaring problem: the clip is from a March interview.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in early April updated its guidelines to recommend Americans wear masks in public.

Voice of the Majority has only posted 23 videos and has 1,400 followers, but the out-of-context video, titled “Dr. Fauci now says no masks,” has racked up more than 510,000 views — double the amount it had Thursday. And Google search interest in “60 minutes Fauci masks” hit its peak earlier this week.

EVERYBODY got things wrong back in late February and early March. EVERYBODY.

Why?

Because back then it was VERY early in the game, and reliable information, scientific and otherwise, was just starting to come in, in bits 'n' pieces. We're talking FEBRUARY AND MARCH, okay?

We didn't know back then what we know now.

We didn't know back then what we knew a month ago.

We didn't know back then what we knew two months ago.

We didn't know back then what we knew three months ago.

There was just a shitload of facts and findings, numbers and research, that we didn't know, back then.

EVERYBODY got things wrong. Which you CAN and WILL do when you have limited information on which to base conclusions. And when you have limited info, facts, and research on which to base your conclusions, you're gonna conclude based on limited input - which, especially early-on in any such crisis, is apt to be less reliable.

In February and well into March, we simply DID NOT HAVE enough data yet.

We simply DID NOT HAVE as much background info, or research data, as we do now.

NOW, it's easy to look back and take potshots. Because we're in a position where we have, what? FIVE MONTHS of this by now? We've had months to collect, compile, and study the statistics, the trend lines, the national picture as well as state-by-state. We have WAY more details and trend-tracking. WAY more scientific AND anecdotal evidence to sift through, average out, and compare. We can make WAY MORE educated guesses because the universe of information is WAY larger now than it was in late February - which, I noticed, was the date-notation on many of the Fauci soundbite replays.

YEAH he wasn't adamant about wearing masks back then. HELLO!?!?!?!?! NOBODY WAS!!! The Pope would have been wrong! The head of W.H.O. and leaders of any respected international medical or scientific outfit would have been wrong. Because they were basing their best guesses and informed conclusions on WHAT THEY KNEW, AT THAT TIME. Which was limited, at best. We. Simply. DID. NOT. HAVE. Enough. Info. Yet. NOR did we have months of time and research data coming in, to look over and make sense of.

BTW - We're expected to have almost literally a QUARTER MILLION DEATHS by November first. That's the latest model projection. The exact number is 224,089. The source is the widely-respected and credible University of Washington Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation - which is where a lot of those graphs showing all those growth curves come from.

At least within memory.

We've already heard expert after expert remind, in public, on camera, and in writing, all over the place, that the coronavirus is new. It's different. It's not like anything else they've ever seen.

THERE'S BEEN NO TEMPLATE. There's been NOTHING in the past, at least if these folks are to be believed, that gives them similarities

And in the beginning, when you're facing a problem that's brand new and the old rules to the old problems don't apply anymore, or at best aren't an easy fit. The similarities and easy comparisons ARE NOT THERE. You're on brand new, untrodden, virgin turf. We're MAKING the foot path through the deep snow or mucky mud or dirt or untamed overgrowth. We're NOT following tracks already laid down by earlier trackers or trailblazers.

This is a whole new thing that scientists and researchers and doctors and assorted nerds everywhere have to wrap their brains around and try to make some sense of. And they have to process all that info so the public and all other non-pros and non-nerds can receive and make sense of it, too.

During press conferences and in fact went to one and was asked to leave, the science community and CDC have found new venues to get the word out. He spoke at Georgetown University yesterday and had some interesting things to say.

Concerning the possible new vaccine, he pointed out that even if we would be lucky enough to have a vaccine that had a 70% to 75% accuracy rate, even with all of the herd immunity we have now, we would still have cases of the Coronavirus. For some reason it has totally slipped my mind that even the influenza vaccine is 50% or lower some years because it is a different strain that goes around that specific year.

The White House is now distancing themselves for nasty remarks made about him yesterday, but I don't believe them for a bit. Someone was trying to make brownie points and had things worked out well, the White House would take full credit for it.
