Right wing talk radio

I just went out to pick up our "curbside pickup" dinner at the local Italian Restaurant. I was about ten minutes early so I put on the radio to get the weather. I forgot that that time slot has a right wing talk radio asshole - not Rush or Hannity, but someone I never heard of before.

Within five minutes I was LIVID! The first caller claimed that Clinton was the worst possible candidate for the Democrats, the second one started talking about Joe Scarborough murdering his intern, and then a guest came on. He began rambling about Joe Biden in the basement, and his "Marxist" policies!!!

Finally after 10 minutes I had to switch stations, I didn't want to run a stop sign to get me out of my misery.

This is what we have to fight - this is the radio that's on in the heartland, the midwest, almost wall to wall. And those listening to it are too brain dead to NOT believe this crap.

Unbelievable, and scary too.

We need them to review and change the media ownership rules and reinstate the fairness doctrine.

4. Yes. The FCC under Ronald Reagan canceled many of the rules concerning media ownership....

....in particular markets.

Previously there were limits to the number of outlets with the same ownership, something like one newspaper, one radio station, one television station. Now they can buy almost as many as they can afford.

I've done a lot of long-range driving over the years, a few trips to Chicago, Detroit, Louisville, and many to Toronto. Get outside the NYC metropolitan area and it's wall-to-wall rightwing crap. Hit "scan" on the radio, then next station has the same crap. I remember one time I was in range of FOUR radio stations that had Rush on at the same time.

7. We used to have a great progressive radio station in Sf and then Clear channel made it right wing

It also had high ratings for the area. I now pay for Sirius and listen to Progressive 127, the urban channel, and sometimes msnbc in both our cars. Years ago we rented a car and drove from DC to Colonel Williamsburg and back and the radio was all Christian or right wing stuff. We drove in silence after that most of the way. When we rent a car now we pay extra for Sirius.

similar to the left hand side of the FM band

When I have more sinister moments, I think about allocating 540 kHz to 1800 kHz to radio-location services. We do need an alternative to satellite GPS, and taking frequencies away from RWNJ blowhards would of course be an unfortunate consequence (for them).

A smug, self righteous twit muttering about how if Orange Hitler loses Democrats will instill communism.

I hate those people.

this article isn't specific to RW radio, but it's about the futility of engagement, the death of good faith debate. it's also somewhat relevant to DU:

saying Biden will make America Comnist is NOT arguing in good faith.

then the marches need to be to the local AM Hate Radio station. The next boycott doesn't need to be Goya...it needs to be EVERY business, even the local ones, that advertise on Hate Radio.

The boycotts need to be the universities that broadcast their sports on these local stations.

These stations are the Petri dishes that spawned this entire shitshow.

Any move 1% left is communist, going to mandate abortions for all and take away all your rights if you’re white and straight. It’s always to the Nth degree. It’s impossible to listen to.
