Woman in viral racist videos struck by fire dept. truck, 'life-threatening' injuries

ASHEVILLE - A woman whose racist video rants and attack on a Black teenager and woman in a hijab made international news has been struck by a vehicle.

Rachel Dawn Ruit of Terry's Gap Road in Henderson County suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by an Asheville Fire Department pickup truck July 13 in West Asheville, according to police and a witness.

Officers with the Asheville Police Department are investigating the accident APD spokeswoman Christina Hallingse said.

"This afternoon at approximately 1:30 p.m. the Asheville Police Department responded to the 800 block of Patton Avenue after reports of a pedestrian being struck in the roadway," Hallingse said.

"Upon arrival officers located a female, known to officers as Rachel Dawn Ruit, suffering from life threatening injuries. She is currently at Mission in critical condition."

6. The videos of her rants are so offensive, I am surprised she was not slapped with a hate crime.

Ruit, 41, was arrested July 4 after she ripped off a woman's hijab and grabbed a teenager in the groin after saying she needed to be "put down" and threatening to rape her.

She was arrested and charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and second-degree trespass, all misdemeanors.

If she would have been held without bail, she would at least be unhurt, but maybe karma has a way of dealing with stupid hateful people.

Glad you saw the videos, she was extremely vile.

The "accident" may have been a suicide attempt as she seems to be really out there and is possibly experiencing some sort of episode.

She needed to be hospitalized long before she got hit by the fire truck.

manifested in various ways, not just by not being as sneakily self protective as typical racists are. So no huge surprise that something else went wrong with a life that probably has a few good problems. It's usually more like kids who don't visit and things like that than getting hit by fire trucks, though.
