President Donald Trump has been showering farmers with cash to paper over their losses from his trade wars and the coronavirus pandemic, but experts worry the agriculture industry may grow too dependent on the subsidies.
Agriculture subsidies have soared to historic levels under Trump, but farm policy experts and watchdog groups say the payouts offer little value to taxpayers and come with almost no congressional oversight, reported Politico.
Its a big problem for agriculture because its not sustainable, said Anne Schechinger, senior economics analyst at the nonprofit watchdog Environmental Working Group. Its really difficult once youre giving farmers this much money to then take away those [payments].
Direct farm aid is at an all-time high under Trump, up from $11.5 billion in 2017 to more than $32 billion this year, soaking up about two-thirds of the Department of Housing and Urban Development cost and more than the Agriculture Departments $24 billion discretionary budget, according to a Politico analysis.

28 million kids going hungry everyday in this country, over 34 million unemployed, another 28 million families that may get evicted this coming August and moving forward into winter, and then there is a issues of bounties on military personnel and not one peep from this traitor and in two news conferences in the last three weeks and not one question about those bounties, and then I see a picture of a "guy's" with a hat's and no hats getting bribe money and photo shoot.................

(22,144 posts)filthy and disgusting money still? Hypocrites.
Where was it that I read that farmers didn't want any government handouts or bailouts, and that they were complaining about the handouts given to others, and that they (the farmers) didn't like socialism and such?
Especially when rump is the one that started this whole mess with the trade wars that took farmers and their representatives decades of work to develop, remember, "the 'guy' that could do it all" or that "he's a genius and knows it all!". Right now, about all I can think of with regard to most farmers and ranchers is disgust. Disgust because they fell hardest for the PINO's con and stupid antics, and that the U.S. truly does need a leader in charge and this idiot is not it.
So, if you're a farmer or rancher, don't come to me w/ your BS anymore (most of you). I happen to think that the jobs of other Americans in this country (whether it's in the cities or rural) are just as important as those of a farmer or rancher, and I'm sick and tired of hearing about your holier than God mentality and work ethics. We all have these work ethics too.
