(17,605 posts)Florida logged 10,360 new cases today and Disney opens. It is a crazy world we live in.
For the last seven days, Florida has averaged over 9,400 new cases daily....Today, on Worldometer, Florida registered 95 new deaths of 159 new deaths nationally, (59.7 %) and yet our Republican governor will not even order face masks......
Welcome to Florida!

(21,611 posts)This video was made Thursday by a couple of bloggers/travel agents that live near Disney and book vacation packages for people...... Thursday was not a general admission day but a "annual passholder preview" day so the crowd is even smaller than normal (really no crowd at all). i post this just for curiosity's sake to see what a place designed to hold 10000+ people looks like when social distancing measures are put in place.
cast members are wearing masks and shields, ride queues were divided up with plexiglass and included "wait here" stickers on the ground, etc........... its an hour long so maybe skip around a bit if you don't have that much time lol but it is interesting to watch (and they keep the camera rolling on some of the rides if you want a virtual ride experience lol). It is surreal seeing walkways usually packed with people virtually empty....

(2,066 posts)Disney has a legendary reputation for attention to detail. They are extremely risk averse and I believe no expense was spared in keeping it clean and safe. Theres an argument to be made that if Disney cant pull it off then no one can. Ive also heard people say they feel safer at Universal after it opened a few weeks ago than anywhere else. If Universal can do it, then I know Disney can.
All the parks are wonderful places to stroll, picnic, and people watch. They are beautiful, and Disney goes the extra mile in cleanliness and maintaining their lovely green spaces and gardens. If you can safely stay away from others then go for it.
However, a virus doesnt care about attention to detail or the history of Disney. And some people are just too stupid to stay away from others and properly social distance.
I do not know their policy for cleaning seats after each ride. But I wouldnt want to sit on a sweaty roller coaster in July after someone else.

(15,090 posts)Disney World had some kind of preview event the other day and a Florida friend went to it. She came away saying that they were meticulous about safety and she felt far safer there than at her local Publix.

(21,611 posts)sending the message that everything is okay means no masks, no social distancing, no cleaning, and no restrictions on park capacity. All of which they have instituted and more.
THAT BEING SAID.......... when they put all those plans in place it was a month ago before Florida EXPLODED with cases. I think what they've done would have been enough for the Florida of a month ago, but by the time they opened today, well, I don't think they should be open. But I mostly blame deSantis for betraying the people of Florida to appease drumpf more than I blame Disney.... everything Disney has done has been with the blessing of county and state officials who could, if they wanted to, order the parks to close.
