I am 66 years old. I remember how easily the Republicans used race to gain an advantage in the 60s thru the 80s. If you had told me before the Floyd incident, that as a result of his death, there would be widespread protests across the country, and that there would be statues being torn down and some violence in connection to the protests. I would tell you that that would be a disaster for the Democrats. I am shocked at reaction of most of the public. I believe that we may be entering an era of dominance for the Democrats
Republicans who aren't as delusional as Trump must be horrified.

I believe among young people under a certain age (maybe 21 ? ) the majority of the people are non white.
In the end the changes are mostly about demographic changes in the country.
Also Floyd's death as captured on video and just going on and on and everytime you watch even though you know what happened and that he is dead you still are hoping they would just get the fuck off him and let him breath .

(5,529 posts)The problem with stereotypes is that they support the narratives of the people in control. That has always allowed them to lie and spin about what was happening during police interactions with POC.
That is changing with video camera becoming widespread. It is leveling the playing field and bringing some reality to what is actually happening out there.
The evil represented in the Floyd video was simply hard for people to explain away. In the absence of any other explanations, the obvious just cant be denied any longer
