"The deal was done. DACA is going to be just fine. We're putting it in. It's going to be just fine. And I am going to be, over the next few weeks, signing an immigration bill that a lot of people don't know about. You have breaking news, but I'm signing a big immigration bill," Trump told Díaz-Balart.

"Is that an executive order?" the anchor asked.

"I'm going to do a big executive order. I have the power to do it as president and I'm going to make DACA a part of it," Trump responded. "But, we put it in, and we'll probably going to then be taking it out. We're working out the legal complexities right now, but I'm going to be signing a very major immigration bill as an executive order, which Supreme Court now, because of the DACA decision, has given me the power to do that."

Asked whether the executive order would provide temporary relief for DACA recipients, Trump said its scope would be much wider.

"No, what I'm going to do is that they're going to part of a much bigger bill on immigration. It's going to be a very big bill, a very good bill, and merit-based bill and it will include DACA, and I think people are going to be very happy," said Trump.

32. My prediction

He will sign an executive order that does open up a pathway to citizenship for some DACA's, maybe even most of them (but probably not all). That pathway will neither be easy nor impossible, but under his order some people would end up deported for really minor reasons, like "disorderly conduct" while drunk or a marijuana bust .

Trump will do this because he needs to hold onto some of his suburban republican votes to have any chance of being reelected and he is scared to death of losing. This is literally the least Trump can do to try to soften his image as a racist anti-immigrant asshole, and he will do this only because he must. DACA is the low hanging fruit compromise gesture that he can make while continuing to pursue hard line ant--immigrant policies to court his base, a portion of whom actually have some sympathy for DACA's. This is the fig leaf he will trot out to "prove" that he's not a racist while continuing to act like the racist he is. He will use this as a ploy to try to peal off a few Latino votes It will be his token gesture to Hispanics, much as some prison sentencing reforms were for Blacks. He will toot his own horn endlessly on these actions to those target communities while continuing to overall screw them. It is ALL about election math.

Meanwhile Trump will not be able to stop himself. He will also insert some poison pill clauses in this new Executive Order that will be both reprehensible and indefensible, and utterly racist in both intent and impact.
