(23,767 posts)He honed his craft while working as a media consultant for Reagan and Nixon. It was easy. He saw the race riots of the '60, and used those to drive a wedge in the middle class. Bigotry and racism were around long before him, he just used it effectively enough that the prejudiced persons of the middle class came to put those issues at the top of their list of importance.

(30,817 posts)Although white and black could have many substitutes. It is the nature of humans to elevate themselves by looking down on others. Those of us who are fairly intelligent and self-aware seek to rise above this as we reach adulthood and find other measures of self-worth. But many stagnate and are ruled by our basic primitive emotions.
