Don't hope that Trump will drop out of the election.

If he does, no matter who the Republicans then nominate, a lot of decent Republicans will now feel free to vote for that nominee. Especially if Biden goes with a woman of color for his VP, which would bring a lot of ugly racism to the fore.

And anybody they nominate is Not going to get the vote of Drumpf's base, who will be pissed beyond belief. The repubs would still be doomed in that scenario, and they know it. That's why they're riding him to the end.

Republicans are on the losing end and they can smell it.

To pick up Senate seats in....Colorado, Maine, Arizona, Montana, Iowa, Georgia, North Carolina, shockers in South Carolina, Kentucky, Texas, and Alabama, will send a message that the Republican Party taken over by Trump is out of date , finished.

House Republicans are not assured re-election either.

Now that the Manhattan DA will get to see his financials, there is no way Donnie quits as Pence cannot pardon State crimes. Donnie’s only hope is to win re-election so that State charges are not leveled against while he is still POTUS, in accordance with the DOJ’s OLC memo. If we thought he’s going to go ballistic to win re-election before the SCOTUS ruling, hang on because it’s going to get absolutely insane now.

It's a DOJ policy that a sitting POTUS can't be indicted, but does that extend to the State of New York too?

Do they have to honor that policy?

No, they don’t have to honor it, but Donnie’s lawyers would probably go to Federal Court to argue that the OLC memo applies to all prosecutions. Since the memo is only an opinion, Mueller could also have disregarded it, but he is such an institutionalist that he honored the memo.

Petulantly refuses to attend inauguration, has to be "escorted out" as Mr. and Mrs. Biden move in... and as he leaves the White House gates, there are 4 NYPD officers ready to serve an arrest warrant on him.

Honorable man, became punchline to jokes, got beat, as the incumbent, by a relatively unknown democrat.
Other republics with long term aspirations won't agree to do it.
So, they'd be stuck with a guy who nobody voted for in 2016.
But, it's hypothetical. PINO is not going to step aside.

He was actually the president. Not a VP, not a senator, or anything else.
He got beat by a guy that few had heard of!
No R with any other ambitions would touch this role.
I don't think the pardon was a singular reason he lost.
And, it's beside the point.

sadly over-estimated goprs, thinking most would act like humans and do the right thing when confronted with a small, limited, but dangerous man in the most powerful office in the world.

Not because I stand to take some money from a friend, but I hope the world takes any chance it gets to rid itself of a menace as soon as possible...and then work to eliminate the toxic, sad Trumpism which props him up.
