...he thinks that might permit more people to enter back into the job market, thus lowering the unemployment rate, thus making it look better for him on election day.
He doesn't care about the health of the children, or the teachers, or anyone else that might contact the virus.
He is thinking about what is best for himself.
It's as simple as that.

Only reason he gave was unsupported.
All he said was it was important, very important. No reason why so important.
Any thinking person would need to see the importance behind the importance. Know what I mean??? 😜😳🤪🤯

(6,844 posts)got up in front of the TeeVee cameras in the white house with a graph showing two lines. One going up and right, the other going down. Pointing to the upward line he said, "this is the republican tax plan". Pointing to the other line, the one going down to the bottom right corner, he said, "this is the result if the failed legislation of irresponsible democrats has it's way". There was no explanation given for that pronouncement. No data or tangible substance to support such a conclusion. It was a "trust me" moment brought to you by the Gipper made flesh. The audience (having pre-empted all 3 networks, it entailed everybody watching TeeVee at 7:00 pm eastern time on a weekday evening) faced the choice of accepting his word that he could divine the fate of the economy or realizing that he was a charlatan taking a big political gamble. His gamble was successful, he got his tax breaks. And 2 years later he had to revoke them because they resulted in the biggest job loss recession since the "stagflation" of 1973-75. The establishment news media was stunned into complacency which evolved into compliance. They haven't asked many questions of substance or demanded legitimate answers since. They've pretty much stayed with the "horse race" aspect of things to the exclusion of all others.
"Any thinking person would need to see the importance behind the importance. Know what I mean???" Yes. If they only trusted their lying eyes.

(21,718 posts)I remember Mayor Diblasio saying that when this whole thing started. Not sure if I spelled Diblasio correctly. He didn't want to close down schools because it would be hard for parents to work.

(1,789 posts)He is prolific at lying, not good at it. He blurts out the rationale for his statements thinly disguised, choosing a side on a non-existent political battle. You could edit out everything he said apart from "political reasons" and come away with the same reading of the statement.

(2,640 posts)There are no jobs.
Many of the jobs lost due to COVID are gone forever.
Even after the pandemic starts to wind down, the unemployment rate will be higher than the Great Recession.

(203 posts)Unfortunately most people, when faced with a choice between the possibility that they might get sick versus the certainty that they will lose their jobs and homes if they can't work, are going to choose to roll the dice. And they will rationalize that decision, and in doing so "might" give Trump credit for making the decision for them. It is of course unconscionable that we are putting families in that position to begin with, but I think that is the political calculus in the White House.

(333 posts)Is a boon to the economy. Parents are rushing to buy school supplies and clothes and other items. In some states they have tax free days to encourage spending. BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS: TRUMP WANTS TO SAY HE REBUILT THE ECONOMY BEFORE NOV.
