Just found this and it supports my concerns about this attempt as being strategic, not just vanity. Musk and West may be Fascists at heart whether they know it or not. Musk has earned my complete disdain now. I have plenty of expletives in mind for both of them.
West and Musk should just go to a country with an existing dictator if that's what they want to encourage here. They both have lots of money, so maybe they feel immune to the dark, dismal potentials of the Trump Regime and its ending of democracy in America.

Election forecaster Rachel Bitecofer explained to USA Today that celebrity is a major asset and, thanks to Kanyes money and fame, he could still mount a legit write-in campaign, particularly as he has the backing of multi-billionaire, Elon Musk.
Then you dont need ballot access. Hes got his own fortune, his wifes fortunate and obviously support from Musk, Bitecofe said. Lets say he was serious and he put time, effort and money into this effort then it could potentially siphon off votes from Biden. It really would be dependent on that amount of effort. If its just a joke then obviously its not going to have that much of an effect.
She continued, If I was on the Biden campaign today and this came across last night, I would definitely see it as a serious threat and one that I would want to avoid.
The reason why the Trump campaign worked @kanyewest via @elonmusk though is he can still siphon off 10,000s of thousands of votes via write-in bc he's a celeb. He doesn't need ballot access!

(51,630 posts)They will not waste a vote on him. Get back on your meds, dude.
Musk is a classic "pull up the ladder once he got his" asshole. He benefited from tons of govt programs to get a great education, etc then did a 180°. No one will vote for him since he acts like Bezos with his CA factory and the workers who want Covid protection.

(25,902 posts)I doubt he can get on any ballots, and even with Elon Musk's money, he won't get more than a few thousand write in votes. Plus, does anyone honestly think that West would run a real campaign, with some kind of coherent platform and get out there to campaign?

(53,871 posts)I don't see either of them putting too much effort into itI mean like campaign appearances, campaign offices, etc. Most I expect out of them is to hire social media people to tweet for them, just as he announced his so-called campaign, if that.
And black voters know he's crazy, and most of all, want to beat trump over anything else, nut case celebrity in the running or not, and whether he's on his meds or off them or not.

(3,282 posts)who are these Biden supporters who are going to be switching to Kanye West?
The people who would vote for Kanye are the people who are already not voting for Biden.
Who exactly are Kanye Wests coalition? Let's not reduce black voters to being people who will blindly vote for anyone who is black. Kanye West is the same guy who wears a MAGA hat and says slavery was a choice.

(22,976 posts)Media space/time that should be devoted to blasting 45 and promoting Joe Biden not hijacked by the whole fucking West/Kardashian fake-celebrity circus.

Also if you note, since his announcement, there hasn't been a word from him about it.

(509 posts)I think Kanye would only draw votes from non-voters...maybe young men primarily that were never going to vote for Joe Biden anyway. He could also draw Green Party/Libertarian type voters. I don't think a significant amount of Biden voters would switch to Kanye, but he could draw in non-voters. The problem for the Republicans is that those voters could actually vote Dem in down ballot races and this could backfire big time on congressional and state level races!

(50,562 posts)Kanye West has views very similar to Donald Trump. In fact, the major difference (besides skin color...Kanye is Black and Trump is whatever color is on his makeup table this morning) between Kanye and Trump is Kanye is a more competent businessman than Trump. This means Kanyes base is not black people in general, but black Trumpites.
Add to that the difficulty of a write-in candidate making the ballot (in nine states there are no write-ins, in 10 states and DC they have free access, and in the rest of the states write-in candidates must register. And he has no campaign apparatus. And this. And that.
If I didnt know better, Id say Kim Kardashians moran husband announcing a presidential bid four months before the election is a brazen ploy to knock Ghislaine Maxwell news off the front page.
