(19,193 posts)Doesn't mean leftists haven't done some terrible things in history, just that they weren't fascist. Fascism is by definition an ideology of the Right.

(25,285 posts)When I heard Trump say that I immediately reacted the same way.
By it's very definition - fascism is a 'right wing movement'.
From Wikipedia:
Fascism
Fascism is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, as well as strong regimentation of society and of the economy which came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe.
Again - Trump - blaming the left for what the right is doing.

(12,712 posts)Attributing the term to the left is yet another Fascist tactic to both take the heat of of recognition and to vilify any opposing forces and then scapegoat them like we see right now.
Fascists are conniving, sneaky and deceptive in that sense. They wrap themselves in flags and hold crosses if they have to, so to speak. Or, in this case wrap themselves around the flag and hold prayer meetings in the Oval Office. Same difference.

(9,090 posts)ours because we give the fascist think tanks here and probably in russia a free speech free ride on 1500 coordinated radio stations - those stations will be allowed to define the protests and protestors long after the protestors go home - been happening since reagan killed the fairness doctrine and why protests have to be monumental. and even then the republican politicians can mostly ignore them by pointing to the dominating buzz a few hundred blowhards have been allowed to spew, and it's the dems who the media forces into playing defense

(36,747 posts)There is left wing authoritarianism, but its not fascism.
Fascism is the melding together of state and private corporate power.

(13,213 posts)In order to avoid the obvious fact that the right is chock full of authoritarian ideologies and regimes, they take all of those 'problems' and move them over to the left.
The left of course has its own authoritarian problems, fascism isn't one of them.

(5,646 posts)Dump is merely using the term to confuse his base and give them something to talk about.
Whether it is a real thing or not doesn't matter, they will believe anything, we know that already with Q and other BS they spout. He has a base of willfully ignorant lemmings and he is exploiting it to the fullest in order to bring about the next civil war.
His speech on the 3rd was the most divisive speech ever given by a sitting pResident, it was meant to seal the deal and declare their independence.
They will have no problem taking up arms against the left, we have been demonized and animalized. His followers are already pulling guns on people and walking the streets carrying AR-15's to intimidate Free Speech.

(23,166 posts)He accuses others of doing exactly what he is doing. So he's a criminal who hates America and Democracy and is a fascist meaning extreme right wing, which means he must accuse Democrats of being anti-American left wing fascists, which he knows is a lie and is just meant to hide his own failures.

(3,165 posts)As defined (most of the time) by the person who coined the term, first implemented it, and was the only professional journalist to become leader of a nation.
So, to the degree that it consists of a "free market" (albeit very corrupt) but no rival political parties, a government is Fascist.
The definition existed before most of us were born, PhD or no, people can't just rewrite definitions, although it would be hard to argue that there has ever been "left wing" fascism since closely regulating the economy is a basic tenet of us lefties, but theoretically you could have a nation with universal health care, environmental protections, universal education, and other good lefty things that only had one party and a mostly free economy, so it's not completely impossible.
So every fascist government so far has been, indeed, right wing, but regardless of what someone writes on wikipedia or their PhD thesis, it's not part of the original definition even if it's always been the case.
