‘Grim resolve’: Biden is up big and the Senate is in sight, but Democrats still haunted by fear of letdown

by Joey Garrison, USA Today

WASHINGTON – Democrats have heard this story before.

Their standard-bearer builds a sizable lead in the race for president against Donald Trump. Everything seems pointed in their direction. Pundits talk about a Democratic victory like it’s inevitable.

Then it doesn’t happen.

Still licking their wounds four years after Hillary Clinton’s stinging loss, Democrats are grappling with heightened expectations that didn’t seem possible at the start of the year. Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden cruised to a double-digit lead nationally weeks ago and has stayed there as President Trump takes a pounding over his handling of the coronavirus crisis, high unemployment and the fallout from nationwide protests over police brutality.

Not only does Biden lead polls in every battleground state – a wider command than Clinton ever had – the former vice president is either ahead or competitive in states that the GOP must carry, including Texas, Georgia, Iowa, Ohio and Missouri. Democrats also have a path to take control of the Senate.

Misogyny is a powerful force that along with Russian meddling and Comey’s interference allowed trump to draw a straight flush.

His “win” consisted of about 75,000 in a few select counties in three states that “just so happened” to tilt those states to his column. Whether or not those voting machines were hacked is indeterminable now.

Regardless it was a barely eked out “victory” when he still
Lost by millions of votes.

Biden is not a woman. That is a huge factor.

trump is also no longer an “agent of change” but an incumbent who has fucked up everything. People are sick of it. People are sick of him.

Not just democrats.

Vast majorities of the country think things are headed the wrong direction.

Biden’s lead is unfuckable. Russians could tinker with a few machines but can’t simply flip 20,000,000 votes.

Republicans will be wiped out from coast to coast

This will be an historic repudiation of not just trump but trumpism.

This racist ignoramus shit show ends this year.

While this will energize Democrats (generally), it's the misogyny I'm worried about. Because Biden is quite elderly and even if he makes it through 1st term, it's widely believed he won't run for a 2nd term.

All of the devious methods that they have to cheat the election, the ones you can see, and the ones you can't. What are we doing to keep things on the up-and-up? If all the votes are counted, we win. If they play all their tricks like we know they will, we lose. Where's the Grassroots organization keep things on the up-and-up?

Are we ok with ......

Even when it’s truth it’s a deep state lie

Science is a hoax

Is the USA a white power country ?

Corporations set policy and rule and own the politicians you elected.

It’s ok to put human beings In cages because you don’t like them immigrating to the land of the free and brave?

And if you’re a person of color, the police can harass you for the color of your skin with no evidence of illegal activity.

People suffer and die Because it’s your own damn fault being born into poverty in this country

Or do we all work together for the common good and rise up together to fix the wrongs?

USA is at pivotal point

We have to so overwhelm them they can’t suppress enough.

If people are convinced their candidate is going to be elected, maybe they don't think that it's necessary to actually vote. Being scared is good.

EVERYBODY TO VOTE IN NOVEMBER! I still think Hillary lost because too many Dems kept hearing how far ahead she was and decided just not to bother voting because their votes weren't needed. Yes U know there were lots of other things at work in 2016, but she could have beat all of them had all of our Dems voted. PL, don't keep pushing that Biden has the lead. We CAN'T have that happen AGAIN!

If we'd had more fear in 2016 I think we'd have won.

Let's be honest, despite everything else, if people had actually thought Trump could win more people would have came out and voted or not voted for a 3rd party candidate. A lot of people felt like Clinton was going to win easily so they didn't take it all that seriously.

I believe polls and think Biden is in better shape right now than Clinton ever was, but I'm perfectly happy letting people think Trump has a great chance to win. I don't want anyone to think they can skip out on this one.

I think many on DU underestimate what 40 years of bashing Hillary did to her. She got dismantled for her attempt to reform healthcare in the early 90’s and it stuck.

I lived in Arkansas as a kid till I graduated in 84. Bill was hard to hit, although he lost in 80 after becoming governor in 78. So theY attacked Hillary. The pattern never changed. Bill was popular even thru the impeachment. Hillary caught more shit than him for standing by him. Even in liberal circles although their relationship is none of our business. In retrospect, he may have been ok with that.

Anyway, enough with old bitterness. Joe has none of those issues He is seen as a good man because he is. Just a good dude.

The republicans have made a fatal error. Accusing him of dementia or some shit. He proved in his press conference that is BS and already you are hearing less of that. They can’t demonize him in 4 months.

Again, I’m cautiously optimistic. I know several republicans who are not voting for trump this time. And I’m in Florida. Which Biden will win. Florida is the new Virginia.
