A day after Axl Rose tweeted criticism directed toward the U.S. Surgeon General, the Guns N Roses singer penned a July 4th message defending his political outspokenness.
My disdain 4 [our] current administration n what I perceive as its threat to [our] democracy is no secret, Rose wrote; while the singer isnt active on social media, when he does use Twitter, its often to criticize Donald Trump and his cabinet.
In general my posts in regard to current events, politics or social issues [are] usually coming from a sense of outrage, obligation n responsibility to say something at times when I feel not to is being complicit (as opposed to a desire for attention or self promotion), Rose continued.
Im nobody, just a citizen that like everyone else has my own opinions n believes in my heart that ultimately I want whats best for not just [our] country but for humanity, wildlife n [our] environment n others as opposed to right, left or any other wing fascism [are] at least in this country free to disagree.
On July 3rd, Rose slammed U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams after he appeared in an interview and refused to comment on whether or not U.S. citizens in the midst of a pandemic should attend July 4th parties. Jerome Adams is a: A coward b: A POS c: Both, Rose tweeted. Resign. U dont deserve the job or title. America deserves better.

The singer had previously taken aim at Steven Mnuchin, stating that the Treasury Secretary is officially an asshole. Rose and Mnuchin then engaged in a brief Twitter feud, with Rose silencing Mnuchin by noting unlike this admin Im not responsible for 70k+ deaths.

(36,478 posts)So I have a question. What can be done? This continues to be a problem. The Con, mostly, but other repubs have used popular songs that they didn't get approval for using & it continues to be an issue. What happens? Do they get a fine & pay something & we never hear that part, or is it, once again, IOKIYR. Laws are for dems only.
I guess I should post this to a bigger audience, but I was wondering about this yesterday when I read that they played a different song and the artist opposed.

(52,162 posts)I am on the board of the Triangle Gay Men's Chorus. To get the rights to perform music we simply pay a fee to the major entities which licence music and supply them a list of the music and how many are in our audience. While we are on a much smaller scale, the idea would be the same for any political rally. You select your music, play it at the rally, and then send checks to the licencing organizations. This isn't like when Steven Schwartz said he would refuse to let his musicals be performed in NC after the lege passed an anti transgender bill. Broadway musicals rights are handled on an individual basis since all the music is by the same artist.

(9,213 posts)No matter that he publicly apologized and removed it from future albums and said he was wrong 25 years ago. No matter that people change and learn from their mistakes and have come out strongly on the Dem side for the past 25 years...let's all pile on him for the rest of his life and hold him to this one period in his life before he really grew up and became enlightened.

Seriously, though, it is possible for people to change. We're talking about a timespan of... twenty-five, thirty years.
I wasn't exactly "woke" when I was in my twenties.
