https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/505300-mcconnell-warns-democrats-not-to-change-filibuster-ruleHe said eliminating the legislative filibuster by reducing the 60-vote threshold for passing bills to a simple majority would be a serious mistake.
The important thing for our Democratic friends to remember is that you may not be in total control in the future, and anytime you start fiddling around with the rules of the Senate, I think you always need to put yourself in the other fellows shoes and just imagine what might happen when the wind shifts, McConnell told reporters when asked about an uptick in discussions among Democrats about changing the filibuster rule if former Vice President Joe Biden wins the White House and they capture the Senate.
Journalists should ask McConnell just one question:
"Will you extend to the Biden-administration the same level of bipartisanship you extended to the Obama-administration?"

(16,402 posts)Remember when Dems took back the House and Senate last time? I don't remember who said it -- Gingrich or Hastert, maybe -- but the admonition was, in essence, "We expect you to not treat us the way we treated you." This was the same GOP leadership that refused to allow Democrats to use a conference room for one of their committees and forced them to use a room in the basement. There were countless other slights and insults, but when the gavel was about to be passed to Nancy Pelosi, they demanded better than they gave.
Similar situation here. After all McConnell has done, he's demanding that Democrats "put yourself in the other person's shoes"?
We've been there, Moscow Mitch, many many times -- and we're going to make sure you finally do the same.

The only way to deal with the abuser in this situation is to stand up to him. Better yet, remove the abuser entirely. Come on, Kentucky. Kick this criminal bully out.

(3,714 posts)I talk of how a sane society can deal with the poison of the sociopathic trumpdemic and parsimonious people.
I have used the term "shun" but "marginalize" is better.
Those on the margins need not be laughed at, listened to, argued with, trusted, respected, etc.
They are here and need to be cared for within society, respected as human-beings but not taken seriously.
Seat them at the kid's table (so to speak and with apologies to the kids for ageism).

(16,685 posts)Is exactly what republicans have been doing for the past 4 years. The filibuster when it comes to legislation hasn't come up because he simply blocks what he doesnt like that wouldn't clear the filibuster threshold. The filibuster for judge confirmations is already gone.
It should go. It was only ever worthwhile when both sides were willing to act in good faith and Republicans have been acting in bad faith for quite a while now.
