In a bizarre interview with Fox News last night, President Trump stood next to a sculpture in the Oval Office that he said depicts former president Teddy Roosevelt, and explained that statues are vital to learning about history. Trump went on to complain that some people want to tear down statues of President Roosevelt, just like the art in his office. The only problem? The sculpture Trump was talking about isnt Teddy Roosevelt. Its an anonymous cowboy from the 1890s.

I am hearing more and more people turning away from Trump not because of his politics or policies, but because they realize that he is dumb as a rock and the whole Administration is grossly incompetent.

Now the R's have turned against Trump. That's why they are speaking up against him now.

(12,816 posts)Sometimes I think Trump does lie, in that he knows the truth and deliberately hides it. The rest of the time, he just bullshits. The bullshit isn't true either, of course, but as you say he "neither knows nor cares" what the truth is in those cases.

Yesterday a facebook friend posted a picture of a manure gun and told how much manure it could spit out, and how far it shot; I replied with a picture Il Douche, andmarvelled at the coincidence that the object of mine could also spew a lot of bullshit. (3,404 posts)In the 90s those Remington sculptures were more popular than pop tarts. How did Trump not get the memo? That mustached cowboy must have been on all of the ones that I have seen and never did I or anyone else suggest that it was a depiction of TR.

(33,643 posts)MUSEUMS.
That's more or less what museums are for.
Nobody is saying we can't have 'Civil War Museums' and they can litter the places with the fucking statues and nobody will say 'boo'.
Cause that's the sort of place they belong.
And I've heard absolutely nothing about anyone wanting to tear down TR statues.
Fever Dreams, asshole?
lunatica
(53,410 posts)because there are men long before the Civil War and long after who were racist, not just involving Black people, but including Native Americans as well. I was thinking calling it the Dark Side of America.
If we have a museum about the Holocaust we can have one or several about The history of our evil underbelly. Throw in the burning of the witches in Salem, and the internment of the Japanese.

As statues glorifying white supremacy and colonialist figures find themselves under increased social scrutiny and attacks amid anti-racism protests, many conservatives in the US have claimed these monuments are essential for teaching American history to the public. That was the point President Trump was trying to make in a Fox News interview on Sunday as he gestured to a bronze horse-and-rider work on display in the Oval Office that he suggested was the likeness of former president Theodore Roosevelt, a controversial statue of whom is due to be removed from outside of the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
The only problem? It is not Roosevelt.
Instead, it is an unnamed fictional cowboy known as The Broncho Buster, made by the late 19th-century painter and illustrator Frederic Remington, who is best remembered for his idealised depictions of the American West.
