(33,517 posts)I personally don't care about anything he says; since I considered him to be a fucking idiot when he endorsed the notion that George W. Bush was the same as Al Gore.
Maybe you didn't care so much about the Iraqi children blown to bits in Bush II's Oedipal war, and maybe you think that a smug jokey movie about kids blown away in Colorado was more important than the Iraqi children blown away by Bush II, but I cared a great deal. I was umamused by "Bowling for Columbine," particularly when made by a moron who could endorse the concept of equivalence of Bush and Gore.
Bush, it turns out, as any fucking idiot could easily see, was not "the same as Gore." Well, I guess there were some idiots who were of such low intellectual and moral apprehension as to not see the difference.
We obviously care about very different things, so again, please don't speak for me.

(58,785 posts)Those who despise their own side so much they have almost nothing left for the other.
A political psychologist once flippantly summarized an important difference between right and left wing extremists by saying the right's hate everyone else, while the left's hate themselves.
You're absolutely right that Moore acts like he doesn't want Democrats to win, because he's at best conflicted and resentful and at worst doesn't. For years he's been sabotaging everything he claims to believe in by trying to undermine support for Democrats. The night before the 2018 midterms, he opened his pretend GOTV talk to young late night comedy viewers by "agreeing" they had nothing good to vote for. And no, President Obama did NOT tell Flint parents to give their children poisoned water.
And this! His warning that Democrats wouldn't camp out for five days in the heat in the middle of a killer pandemic to see Joe Biden, as if that were a bad thing about him.
It's about US, and hell no we wouldn't! Democrats and left indies marched in over 700 communities after George Floyd's murder for a purpose and ideals of equality, not for Our Leader. We also wouldn't still be screaming to kidnap and imprison Our Leader's opponent five years after we started, and four long years after it couldn't matter except to fulfill our blood lust and whet it for more.
NNadir
(33,517 posts)...is for money. When confronted with such an argument when it's addressed at me - because of my views on energy - I note that anyone who assumes that is probably doing so because they lack a moral basis sufficient to recognize that some people are motivated to do things because they are the right things to do.
Of course, though one can take one's self assumed holiness too far, and sometimes we get corrupted by it.
There is nothing in Moore's background to suggest that he has either the education or experience to do anything but criticize other people for having failings that he defines from a position of being unassailable. In other words, he is a parasite on failure.
Perhaps at some point he held serious opinions and was seriously concerned about the world, albeit in a wholly inflated way.
However, he makes a lot of money off his holiness, doesn't he? I mean, would he have sold a lot of tickets that smug obscenely disrespectful humor directed at the death of schoolchildren (Bowling for Columbine) in a Gore Presidency?
Would he have made a dime off of Fahrenheit 9/11 if Al Gore rather than George W. Bush had been seated in the White House, an outcome which he actively worked to prevent? Would there have been a World Trade Center disaster on which he could hold forth?
He is an emotional and intellectual parasite of a low order, nothing more than a saboteur. I don't consider him a "leftist" at all, and his hatred of the left derives simply from his love of himself. I have zero respect for him. He's not serious; like Trump, he's nothing more than a pernicious clown.
He is unqualified to judge anyone because he has never built a worthwhile thing in his life and has no practical vision of how to make a better world.
At best, he's Rush Limbaugh of an ersatz "left," unprincipled and self absorbed.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)just couldn't resist the need to poison the efforts of better people. And then, of course, he discovered what a lucrative little niche market there is for his poison, and presumably from then on there's been no struggle at all. Only profits and gratifying niche influence.

his state is dominated by republican (now putin) talk radio and UM (7)and MSU (11) broadcast sports on 18! limbaugh stations. those stations loved gov snyder. those stations all yelled "COVID is a hoax!" for 2 months, killing thousands. they also yelled white lives matter, blue lives matter, trayvon martin and mike brown were thugs, and colin kaepernick and kneeling athletes are traitors. they also yelled lead in drinking water is as over-hyped as COVID
the act of merely questioning that relationship by MM or black athletes would cause advertisers to head for the hills. most rw talk radio stations would have to do something else. at least 260 limbaugh stations depend on 87 universities like that.
MM or any major athlete could destroy the GOP's only unique tool. many of the republicon radio stations would not survive

I could not sleep, my throat was raw and getting rawer. That night forever changed my view of us an collective Americans, before that night I felt that we would collectively turn back the scourge of rightwing populism that was creeping across the world, I was wrong. I told a Hispanic employee before Trump was nominated that there was no way a person like him could win the presidency, I was wrong.
We can't take anything for granted and need to go after as many votes as we can. I would love to see Trump get buried, but I would be perfectly happy with a solid Biden win - we need to make that happen, the warning that Moore is giving should cause us to take note and work harder to defeat Trump and Trumpism.

(18,486 posts)Rallies are A thing, not THE thing in a campaign.
And the point of them is to "rally" the troops, not to be a cult service for the purpose of worshiping and feeding the ego of the candidate.
And willingness to stand in line for five days for a candidate's rally doesn't prove that candidate's political viability. It could just be proof that the candidate's supporters are nuts. Especially when they stood in line for five days for an event they could have just walked into 20 minutes before it started ...
betsuni
(25,514 posts)The rally obsession is a mystery to me.
StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)At least one candidate on the Democratic side put a huge store in rallies and found that thousands of cheering rally-goers do not necessarily translate into actual votes. But they are lots of fun for the attendees - like a big concert - and good for the candidate's ego.
JonLP24
(29,322 posts)The big rallies gave him a better chance than the 20 or so candidates. Sanders easily could have won but the media freaked out over Sanders win or like in New Hampshire the narrative was "the big story is Klobuchar came in 3rd". Nevada you had freakouts of epic proportion. After Biden won South Carolina he got millions in free advertising and glowing coverage. If 5 or so candidates stayed in and tried to win Sanders probably would have won until the party figured out a strategy to beat him. Remember before the consolidation Warren was willing to stay in though she had little chance to win to prevent Sanders from getting the required delegates.
Jake Tapper said he had reminders of 2004. Howard Dean had the most fundraising & biggest rallies but Kerry was seen as most likely to beat Bush. He was told by a Bush aide that they actually feared Dean more and Dean said "now you tell me."
All that said I think Biden will beat Trump and I will be happy once he's gone.
