I can feel it.
The desperation is palpable.
Hundreds of millions of dollars wasted for a couple percentage points.
Key seats still up in the air that should've been locked down.
Polls going south.
Disapproval going north.
A convention whose defining moment was a soliloquy with an empty chair.
The right is in full-blown panic mode and is starting a full-court press on forums everywhere. They know that they've brought a show pony to a horse race.
That doesn't mean that the game is over, it just means that the rules are changing again.

(12,265 posts)I agree, but they scare the devil out of me when they are cornered. They have LOTS of money to blow on this election. The PAC money could be used to feed the right wing zealots who will continue to preach at church to those who might be on the fence. I live in the reddest of states Oklahoma, I see it every day. The rich folks are using the middle class white folks by screaming about illegal aliens and gays to put up a smoke screen about what they really are doing.
I hope that by choosing Romney, who most of the Republicans don't like, they throw in the towel and stop spending money they know won't work. We can hope...

(4,835 posts)There are a couple of things to keep in mind.
1) We know that Gore won in 2000, but the way that it was stolen (governor brother then they took over the white house) cannot be replicated. The main reason it can't be replicated is because that was the first time. There's an old saying that starts with 'fool me once'.
2) The Bushies were in control of the executive branch of the government when they stole it from Kerry in 2004. The executive branch of the government has a big stick, let's call it the FBI. Whoever controls the executive branch controls the federal law enforcement folk. Kerry had no 'law enforcement' arm to prevent the stealing of the election. The party in power gets to decide what kind of 'preventative federal voter theft squad' will be in place.
3) They can only steal a close election. There isn't any reason to believe that this election will get close again. This means that a couple of places can be watched closely by investigators. Since they have done this before (and we all expect it now, and have a good idea how they will do it); they are way more likely to get caught. At this point in time; getting caught means getting prosecuted, at minimum getting investigated. It was not like that in 2004; campaigns do not have a voter fraud investigation arm.
This isn't a repeat of 2000 because that was the first time they used this system. This isn't 2004 because they were in charge of the government. If they're stupid enough to try it now; they seriously risk getting caught and still losing. Getting caught cheating would do some serious damage to the republican's credibility.
I'm not saying that they aren't going to try to steal it; I'm saying stealing it looks different than the other times that they stole it.
Even if it looks like its going to be close. Now we have a better idea what they're gonna do.
