>>On Monday, September 17th, Reggie Clemons' case will be reviewed by a judge for what could be the last time. He was sentenced to death in St. Louis as an accomplice to a 1991 murder. There was no physical evidence and allegations have arisen of police coercion, prosecutorial misconduct, and a stacked jury that fueled racial bias. Despite so many lingering questions, Missouri is still planning to execute Reggie Clemons.
The Clemons case illustrates many of the flaws of the US death penalty system. Urge Missouri Governor Jay Nixon to stop the execution.<<

I'm against capital punishment in all cases, but I think even if you aren't, you have to concede that the number of flaws and errors in prosecuting this case make capital punishment of Clemons' to be unjust.

(44,576 posts)When Reggie Clemons was arraigned, the judge sent him to the hospital because of his injured appearance following a bout of police interrogation. When he was sentenced to death, it was as an accomplice. The prosecution conceded that he neither killed the victims nor planned the crime. He was convicted on the basis of testimony of two witnesses (both white) one who received a plea bargain, and the other who received a six figure police brutality settlement.
Reggie Clemons has consistently maintained his innocence, as did his two African-American co-defendants (one of whom has already been executed)... Link
