Hes deteriorating a little more each day and he knows it. Every day he feels a little less-well and is beginning to panic. I believe that he has crossed the line of no return and its beginning to palpably accelerate. Thats why the rush for the rally, he needs to marshal his troops before he is no longer able to conduct one of these events.

(11,885 posts)He looks horrible , and has very likely heart issues, pre-dementia, and neurological conditions that will become more evident , and hurt him even more as he spirals out of control, and for all to see before this upcoming election. Republicans are in a horrible spot now, and I also think they will turn on him before the convention.

(6,613 posts)Fingers crossed.
I agree that the R's are in a horrible spot, but they did it to themselves. They nominated that creature as their candidate and have been blindly supporting him. They could have redeemed themselves by unseating him during the impeachment proceedings, but they failed to do so. No pity for fools.

IF he is deteriorating - I expect him to cut and run. Leave Barr as his enforcer keeping Pence on track for the January pardons.
Why? He can salvage some of his reputation with the nation and the GOP by resigning for genuine medical reasons. I'm guessing the RNC would like to see the Never Trumpers sidelined.
I think it is just as likely that the thin shell of his narcissistic ego desperately needs a top up.

(4,168 posts)As a malignant narcissist, Trump is incapable of believing that he is anything but perfect. It makes him oblivious to his own short-comings, and to his own mortality.
His plans -- if you can call his capricious urges "plans" -- are the same as always. Promote Trump. He fully expects to win in November and continue another term as president.
I, on the other hand, will be surprised if he lives that long.
PCIntern
(25,583 posts)Although I fully understand and under some other circumstances would agree with your surmise that one might be oblivious to ones own condition, I think after the lights go out at night it haunts him. Many times these individuals are haunted by the specters of the night time, and they know the day of reckoning is coming.
I will tell you As a former businessman, that I would make it through the day just fine and will it started getting late the realities of my tenuous existence in the business world as a dentist came home to roost. The witching hour was between 1:30 and 4:30 AM. All the denial and defense mechanisms would drop and the curtain would be raised. Fear and loathing would emerge.
I think he doesnt sleep, he knows the fear which comes only at night.
Boomer
(4,168 posts)You paint an evocative image of a Trump haunted by his insecurities and failings, but you're projecting your own normalcy onto a narcissistic psychopath.
Narcissism alone might allow for your scenario, but there's some pretty persuasive documentation that Trump's narcissism is only a subset of his psychopathology. Psychopaths don't experience fear, which is one reason they're so reckless and vindictive. And that lack of fear in the face of obviously fearful circumstances makes it difficult for people to understand them and their behavior. It strikes us as irrational and self-destructive, because we fear consequences; psychopaths do not.
So I've resigned myself to the fact that Trump is not suffering, at least not in way that I would find satisfyingly karmic.

(8,656 posts)If he wins, theGOP have no further use for him. The GOP will be a lot more free to remove the cancer.
He'll be binned and Pence moves in.
That is the problem with the 2nd term, you are essentially sidelined in many ways, there is a new person waiting in the wings.
Trump should be warier of his own lot, Win or lose, he's screwed.

(25,583 posts)There is no question that anyone of this age with his obesity, his obvious lack of self-care, and the stress level of balancing a criminal neo Nazi empire in the fashion which is required would cause rapid deterioration of health with concomitant somatic symptoms. Im seven years younger than he is and went through a two year period of horrifying acute stress, and it aged me terribly physiologically. And Im not 125 pounds overweight, and I take all my medications religiously, and these medications have been prescribed for me and fine-tuned by doctors who have my best interest at heart. I do not administer inappropriate medications to myself in a creative fashion nor Do I consume any fast food, and the iffy meals which I do eat are Absolutely minimal in number. And still, quite frankly, Im falling apart.

(73,605 posts)for the OP and response.
My younger son stops in almost daily to help me with "projects" such as the garden and mowing the lawn. Though he is unhappy that the NYS Golden Gloves' finals are canceled this year -- the 4th in a row he's been in the finals -- he also trains in the gym he set up here. And he jokes that he will get me back into "fighting shape." I tell him that when one reaches the age of 40, all old injuries come back from time to time to visit. At age 50, they come back full-time. By 60, they are in charge. (grin)
I try to maintain a strict, healthy diet. I can't remember the last time I ate "fast food," and I wouldn't feed it to my dog. Due to injuries sustained in an auto wreck, I am heavier than I wish. I exercise enough that after my last doctor's exam, I was told that my numbers were the best that they have been in over 15 years. Yet I recognize that, as an old man, I am not a picture of health. And that's with the self-discipline of a former boxer, who has had relatively little stress in recent times.
I can identify with your last three words, as I am also falling apart. It is a matter of degree for those our age. And, exactly as you noted, Trump's life-style isn't one that slows that process down. Life is catching up to him.

(73,605 posts)some other sources. In the past, I could check things with my late cousin Jim, who was the head of neurology at Temple University for many years. While I have some knowledge of the workings of the human brain -- specific to mental illness and with head injuries -- there are mind-body dynamics that I always look to experts on for accurate information. Thus, I am hoping to be able to post an essay soon, as my friend got my attention by saying that Trump will become much worse between now and November. A sociopath, no doubt, but with more going on.

(25,583 posts)Eventually the system begins to shut down. Physiologically, the body cannot tolerate this kind of continuous assault and as a certain point, the mechanisms just stopped working. The compensatory Systems cease to function, you can look at it like cardiac decompensation: the system is altered by medications for years, and then after a while it can no longer manage and begins to shut down. Thats why people die Of various cardiac diseases even though they are assiduously taking their medications.
What we are saying is a combination of drug use, morbid obesity, cardiovascular disease, and what I believe is an underlying neurological condition in addition to mental deterioration from a cognitive standpoint. I have posited a few possible conditions but it remains to be seen what the real situation is. I would absolutely not be surprised to awaken some morning I hear that he passed during the night.

(32,088 posts)I don't think this is so much a rush to get a rally in before he's too deteriorated, rather than an attempt to slow the deterioration. From all reports I have read and heard, he has become unbearable due to not only the stress and panic, but from being more or less cooped up in the White House. He needs an ego boost, and what better way than to have a rally to give him that. Sending him off to an egofest makes him feel better, and it gets him out of their hair for a while.

I think that it is wishful thinking to believe he'll resign. His presidency is ALL that he's got and he ain't giving it up.
PCIntern
(25,583 posts)Hes actually failed too much in his life to resign the presidency. Most of his brands have failed miserably, hes had multiple bankruptcies, hes held up to ridicule by women whove known him, hes a totally in adequate individual and he will exercise control where he has control. And he will lose control if he resigns. So you aint doing so.
