http://www.boston.com/politicalintelligence/2012/09/17/citizens-united-reach-million-homes-with-broadcast-anti-obama-film/JxKNWV5kyDchPRyZsHH8rJ/story.htmlCitizens United, the group whose lawsuit opened the door to unlimited political spending by individuals, corporations and unions, has reached a deal with a half dozen television networks to air an hour-long film before Election Day about people who have reversed their support of President Obama.
The conservative production studio announced the agreement on Monday, saying The Hope and The Change, a play on Obamas 2008 campaign slogan, will reach 130 million homes.
Thank you, Supreme Court.

(9,854 posts)I have already started bitching about the Supreme Court selling America to the highest bidder and this being the result. Can we get any details on the contents of this campaign ad? And that's another thing, we have ALL got to get the word out over and over and over that this thing is an infomercial for Romney.

(35,015 posts)I know I am giving the American people the benefit of a doubt, but the GOP has been mercilessly trashing Obama since before he took the oath of office. I fail to see how anything in this movie will be a revelation; will be enough to sway enough voters to Romney. And will they believe it anyway? I think people are realizing that the lies are not true.
I think this display of hubris will backfire.

(24,412 posts)This "2016" movie seems to be getting a lot of publicity/hype for some strange reason though. From what I've heard of it, it's a bunch of BS but it has earned a lot of money. Still, I don't think that a lot of average people are likely to buy into it unless they were already somewhat predisposed to believe that Obama is bad.
The best thing that may happen because of the avalanche of sludge, people might finally be open to reversing Citizens United.

(50,338 posts)I have many, many channels available to me and I tune in at various time to maybe a third of them, the others may reach multiple millions of homes, including mine, but that means little when it comes to who will actually tune in.
From the article, these are the ones who will show it:
It will premiere Tuesday on HDNet Movies and is licensed to four other cable networks and one broadcast network with stations in Colorado, Indiana, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Hawaii.
I suspect the majority of the few who will actually watch it are the rabid right wing base who only tune in to Fox already.

(10,857 posts)You know what I think all this crap is doing at this point? Solidifying the resolve of Democrats to make it to the polls and vote them all out.
Republicans don't have anything to vote for, not even lower taxes because it's the Republicans who raised taxes on everyone this year, and voters are figuring that out, too. Acting on mere hate for no material reward is not much of an incentive.
On the other hand, a Republican paying himself by staying home on election day is definitely an incentive. Let's see a movie nobody wants to watch change that.
